W5W Bulbs: Halogen vs. CoolBlue

The Passat 3C, when equipped with Xenon headlights, comes standard with blue W5W bulbs (often called "Cool Blue" or similar) for the parking lights.

However, some E-Class models equipped with Xenon headlights were delivered with even colder/bluer parking lights, which are more similar to the Xenon headlights.

Does anyone know what kind of pears these are?
Perhaps Cool Blue Halogen?

The blue indicator lights in the Passat with xenon headlights are Blue Vision Ultra. However, it seems that VW is receiving a different batch, because there is a "L" printed on the glass bulb, which, at Philips, indicates the long-life versions.

Of course, the blue-tinted halogen lamps are also available from Philips and Narva. They are not cheap, costing around 9 euros per piece. Retailers usually sell them for even more. The advantage of halogen technology is not only the slightly cooler light color, but also the longer lifespan.

The W5W lamps with a glass base are also available as LED versions.
However, it simply consists of two 5mm LEDs soldered onto a small circuit board.
