"Hi everyone, I'm new here and I have a question. I want to install a new engine control unit (ECU) in my Audi A6 4B 2.5 TDI 180hp with the MBK:AKE engine code because I want to have a newer software version. So, my question is: Can I install an ECU from an engine with the MBK:AFN, BAU, or BDG engine codes, or does it have to be specifically for the AKE engine? I'll have to program it with V-Com anyway. Can anyone help me with this?"

Generally, newer datasets can be flashed by VAG dealers. It doesn't make sense to do so if the car isn't having any problems. It won't increase performance, and nothing will change. Newer software versions are usually only used when specific problems can be resolved with them. icon_wink.gif

I completely agree with Mullemaus, it makes absolutely no sense! Especially since the AFN is a 4-cylinder/1.9L engine, while the BDG is for the 2.5L engine but with 163 horsepower. icon_eek.gif That would be a significant downgrade.

The engine swap will probably work. At least, your engine should start after proper calibration. However, keep in mind that engines have different engine control module (ECM) codes for a reason. They are probably the same, but who knows if other components with different specifications are used. Later, in a critical situation, the engine could fail at 200 km/h and cause a serious accident. Instead of using my original BFC engine, I once installed a BDG engine or flashed the software of a BDG engine into my engine control unit (ECU) – this allowed me to avoid the tedious calibration process. The car did start, but I didn't drive it because the risk still seemed too high to me.

But as I said - don't do it. What do you hope to achieve? It would be absolutely pointless and - forgive me - foolish!

"Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my car. It's making a humming noise and feels like it's under a lot of load, regardless of whether it's in Park, Neutral, Drive, or Reverse. I was told that my software version, D01, is one of the oldest, and that this can cause such problems. I wanted to install a different software version, like D33 or something, because Audi refuses to update it. They claim they can't simply update the software and that they need to do extensive research first, and they're charging 90 euros per hour for that. That's why I wanted to install a different software myself."

Best regards, Harry.

I would say that even if you get a newer software version installed, you probably won't notice any changes. What you're describing – which is rather vague – doesn't really suggest a problem with the MSG.

hello,

I actually think it's unlikely that it's related to MSG, but when you hear things like that, you try everything, especially if the people saying it have been in the industry for a long time, you know what I mean. Because on "Motor-Talk," someone told me, "Yes, this software update D01 had caused problems."

Best regards, Harry.

"Hi everyone, I tried adjusting the idle speed today to 800 RPM, but it didn't work. It only decreased slightly. Also, when the engine is warm and I turn it off, if I restart it after about an hour, the idle speed fluctuates for about a minute. However, if the car sits for a longer period, the idle speed or RPM is normal. I used VAG-COM and checked the engine when it was cold, around 70 degrees. When the RPM slowly decreases, the humming starts, right where the cold start idle ends."

Best regards, Harry.
