Hello colleagues.

I'm having a problem with my VW Polo and I'm a bit unsure how to proceed.

I hope you can help me.
I will try my best in German.

It's about a 2005 Volkswagen Polo with a 3-cylinder gasoline engine, model code AZQ.

With the ignition on, but the engine not running, a yellow warning light continuously illuminates in the center of the dashboard. It looks like the handbrake warning light, but it is yellow.
This is not the ABS warning light that is located in the speedometer. It is not illuminated.

When I use the latest generation VAG-COM to check the error memory, no errors are found.

However, during the automatic test, an error is detected in the ABS control unit (03, brakes).

16347 error in EEPROM 014 defect.

Sometimes, it can take a very long time before the error memory can be accessed, even though the ABS unit has already been recognized.
Once, the error message "too many communication errors in the ABS fault memory" appeared.

When performing the actuator diagnosis, the electric motor of the ABS pump can be controlled normally (and the ABS warning light will also illuminate).

Besides an error related to the airbag (low voltage, occurring sporadically), there are no other errors present.

What do you think, is the problem really with the ABS control unit, or can it be fixed with new software?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you very much.

Richard Severijns.

Hi.
Perhaps you're referring to the wear indicator? It illuminates when the brake pads have worn down to a certain level, and the contact points attached to the pads make contact with the brake disc. You might want to check it; sometimes it's just that the cables have corroded or been chewed through by a rodent.

Best regards,

The response was a bit delayed due to a lack of time, but thank you very much for the reply.

And you were right, the problem was with the wear indicator. It was a corroded connector that was causing the issue.

It shows that you never have to rely solely on a computer.
Using common sense is much better.

The error code is still present even after the repair.

Thank you again for the tip.

Regards,

Richard Severijns.
