@all

I can understand that you might want to hold onto that adapter from eBay and try to get it working, especially if you already have it! That's perfectly fine. icon_cool.gif However, I meant something different: This could have been clarified beforehand, and with a little searching here in the forum, you would have found a kit from Maik or his ready-made adapter! icon_wink.gif

Sorry if I had expressed myself unclearly. Of course, I know as well as you do that you don't sell kits or finished parts! }

Hi Jörg,

No problem, especially since I can't find any post with that content from you anywhere.

It seems someone has probably interpreted something into something somewhere. But misunderstandings are there to be cleared up. icon_wink.gif

@ viking

No, it doesn't work with regular electricity either.

Regards,

Thomas.

Okay, so I've been experimenting a bit more. Ultimately, it seems the problems are related to the laptop. Nothing works with my Compaq (Pentium 1000) using a USB-to-serial adapter... although it's known that VAG-COM doesn't run over USB. It does work on my HP (Pentium 600), but only when it's connected to the power outlet and only with the engine turned off. Strangely, everything works perfectly on my brother's laptop (IBM)... Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Best regards,

Hi.

Probably the usual adapter issue: compatibility problems with your COM port, where VAGCOM is barely working under certain conditions.

If your adapter is simply wired and has optocouplers, it will likely only work on various COM ports due to random compatibility.

While it may be possible to build inexpensive adapters that work with all sorts of COM ports, this is likely only possible without galvanic isolation between the car and the PC side.
"In my opinion, it's practically impossible to achieve separation without using trimmers on the adapter, or with a relatively complex circuit design."
