Hi.

I saw a Passat 2.0 TFSI in a parking lot. It had the same exhaust pipes as mine, so I took a closer look (I ordered accessories for the 2.0 T in the US) to see if they were really the same.

I noticed that the inside of the pipes is completely covered in black soot, just like in my old Golf 2 diesel or the 3.0 TDI.

My (TDI DPF) are still so verschandeln that you can see the seams and structures of the pipe manufacturing.

Was the TFSI engine faulty, or does it actually consume more fuel than a TDI?

... there was another T.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

'These newer FSI engines, without that strange stratified injection system, are really quite good in my opinion, thanks to the combustion process. But are they better than a TDI without a DPF? I can't say for sure - but the exhaust pipes are definitely always black.'

No, the box was not defective. The direct injectors are leaking! icon_exclaim.gif

Fortunately, this is not entirely unknown to legislators, and therefore, starting with EU5, direct injection engines must also pass a particulate matter test. icon_twisted.gif

Well, and that's how even gasoline-powered cars can become fine dust emitters. icon_twisted.gif

Interesting...

However, this would only apply to FSI systems that are operated using layer loading.

"But doesn't the FSI technology with stratified charge injection no longer exist?"

Layered silicate materials are also not FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) engines.

little Russian -> a lot of Russian

Gasoline PFI/MPI - Diesel DPF - Gasoline FSI - TDI

It's roughly like that, although I don't know the exact numbers right now (I'm too lazy to look them up icon_wink.gif).

Two of our brand new Golf 5 company cars (TFSI models) are also emitting a noticeable amount of smoke. Besides the black puff of smoke at the start, these two vehicles also have clearly visible streaks of smoke at the rear, which forced me to get my previous car (a Suzuki Ignis DDIS) washed regularly.

Fortunately, I don't see any of that on my 206 HDI70 (with DPF, open system). In fact, the exhaust pipe on the Peugeot is almost completely verschandeln inside. The soot deposits, at least, weren't thick enough after polishing in the autumn that you can't still see the seam of the pipe.

http://www.presseportal.ch/de/pm/100001252/100017527/amag_automobil_und_motoren_ag
The text refers to particle emissions of 2-3 mg/km in newer FSI engines, which is roughly equivalent to the levels of current EU5 DPF direct injection engines.

Here's another good explanation of why GDI/FSI engines produce soot and why there are no more naturally aspirated engines today.

And.

Oh, so... Welcome to the new world. But unfortunately, car manufacturers cannot outsmart either chemistry or physics. icon_wink.gif
