Steering Wheel Error: Funny Bug in Address 16?

Hi,

When reading out error codes with the current VCDS software, I receive the following error messages on a Golf V (1K) at address 16 (Steering):

00576 - Terminal 15.
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit.
00883 - Ignition switch, terminal S.
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit.
00884 - Ignition switch (terminal X)
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit.
01744 - Ignition switch, terminal D (pin P).
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit.
00885 - Ignition switch (terminal 50)
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit - Intermittent.

If I delete them, they reappear immediately?! On the other hand, I can't identify any faults on the vehicle this way??? That's strange, strange... who knows what? Thanks.

I've also seen similar errors when reading data from a G5.

The problem was that when the ignition key was moved slightly (between the "ignition on/off" positions), various lights (such as the parking light and instrument panel illumination) would flicker.

We blamed it on the "E-part" of the ignition switch back then.

Whether that was really the solution, I can't say, because the customer didn't find the fix to be that important (despite the warranty ).

Yep, it's the E-part and not particularly rare - just replace it with a new one, and you're done .
