Hello,

Okay, I have a 1Z TDI engine with the engine control unit (ECU) number 028 906 021 AF.
My friend, who also has a 1Z, has the phone number 028 906 021 GG.
Since he totaled his car, I might be able to get my hands on his WetterauerChip.
Can someone tell me if this part is compatible with mine, or if I should take over the entire control unit?

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you very much in advance!'

Hello.

I don't really know much about it, but I can at least say with some certainty that the 1Z sensors/wiring should be identical. Therefore, there shouldn't be any reason not to replace the entire control unit.

If the chip was specifically tuned to a particular car, then it's obviously not as well-suited to your car, but the difference is probably quite minimal.

However, I find it much more concerning to simply move the chip to a different control unit (because I have no idea about the internal workings of the control units or their differences).

Regards,
Private.

Hello.
The AF control unit has 2 x DIL 28-pin ICs.
The GG (likely referring to a specific entity or project) has the newer circuit board with the 2x PLCC 32 ICs.
'Otherwise, you can only take over the entire control unit.'
You need to adjust it using a VAG-COM device or at a VW workshop.
I can't say for sure, but it had to work.
A potential issue could be the immobilizer.
Then you won't be able to install it like that.
I hope I've been of help.
See you, Thomas.

Hi,
The 021GG is the control unit that you would obtain from VAG as a replacement for a defective 021AF or 021BF (neither of which are manufactured anymore).
So, it fits 100Pro icon_exclaim.gif.
The immobilizer and, if necessary, the transmission (the GG has three codings) must be adjusted using VAG-COM or by a qualified mechanic.
I have already posted instructions for customizing the WFS -> icon_exclaim.gif search function.
If you need more information, please send me an email.

Best regards, Rudi.

I read online that the code '021GG' is used for engine identification codes like ALH or ALU, and that '021AF' is used for the 1Z engine.

So, I'm not so sure anymore!
