Hello,
Unfortunately, a badger has damaged my engine insulation, and, worse, it has damaged the left driveshaft boot.
Since I'm not always able to park in a garage these days, I'd appreciate hearing about people's experiences with various anti-theft devices.
Right now, I'm just placing a spring-loaded rat trap under the car and hoping it catches that little pest and gives it a good pinch.
What helped you?
Best regards, Rainer.

hello rainer,
Damage caused by martens occurs when several martens are active around your car. This often happens when one marten tries to disrupt the territory of another. These creatures then simply chew on anything that gets in their way, purely to cause harm to the other marten.
'A friend of mine also regularly has visits from these critters. He frequently finds bread and bones in the engine compartment. He uses a badger repellent spray as a deterrent. A quick spray into the engine compartment, and it's quiet for 2-3 weeks.'
If I remember correctly, we often had visitors on the floor. My grandfather would then lay out rags soaked in petroleum. That would keep them away for at least half a year!

Hello joergs,
Unfortunately, the anti-marten sprays aren't exactly cheap either. The other day, at a parts store, one had a small dose for €10.50. It said "apply every 14 days."
The tip about using kerosene is good (if it works), because at least it provides a rust protection that is free of charge.
...what do rubber parts actually say about petroleum?
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,
I always park in a carport, and that's why I had problems with it before. As a result, I placed a relatively fine wire mesh (bought from a hardware store, supposedly a fence to deter voles!) under the car. Since then, I haven't had any more problems. It seems these creatures only like solid ground!

Hi,
The solution with the fence is the best one currently available. It's best to mount it on a low frame (about 2 cm above the ground) and slide it under the car from the front.
The situation with multiple martens is even more dangerous if you move the car between two different territories – as far as I recall, you often park it 180 kilometers away from its "home."
If we find traces of martens in both locations, then the other marten will try to eliminate them, even if it means destroying the rubber parts as well.
Best regards,

Once, a little animal chewed through an ABS cable of mine. Unaware of the problem, I went to VW. They installed a new one for me for 140 euros... and...
Hold on tight... They put a bunch of dog hair in my food...
*Goil* Original dog hair from VW.
I'll just check the part number .
Since then, nothing else happened. However, the insulation under my hood is also damaged. That was before I even owned the car.
As Jörg already mentioned, the first and second martens are causing damage. So, you need to get some strong smell inside that will overpower everything else.
I once saw something on TV where people were hanging stones in their genitals...
The grill was found to be very good. Additionally, it was suggested that after a weasel infestation, a motor wash should be performed.
P.S.: Rainer, if you want, I can send you a bag of dog hair. Our old German Shepherd is shedding its winter coat right now...

Hello,
Thank you for the tips.  In addition to the rat trap, there is now a wire mesh placed in front of my car.  Since I was already renewing the underbody protection (a special mixture according to my own recipe) after the timing belt replacement, it should also smell quite strong. }
Best regards, Rainer.

If it's not too much trouble, could you share your 'secret recipe' with me/us? I'd be very interested to know more!

- Underbody protection wax.
- SAE 90 gear oil.
- Add gasoline until it's liquid enough to spray.

Personally, I would spray that kind of animal with foam insulation, especially after I discovered this weekend that it's impossible to get rid of.
Perhaps Rainer has a special mixture in which the animals get stuck, so that they can be properly disposed of the next morning, i.e., recycled into plant fertilizer.
