"Hi, my friend has a Passat with a 3B engine, and the ESP system starts to engage unnecessarily even in gentle curves. I've already checked the wheel speed sensors in the brake electronics diagnostic block to see if any of them are giving incorrect readings (e.g., due to damaged rotors), but I haven't found anything. I suspect it might be the lateral acceleration sensor. Interestingly, the problem only occurs when using winter tires. I had the thought that it might be related to the tires, but I can't quite imagine that being the cause."

Now, my question is:

What else could it be, and how can I test this component?

Check the age of the tires and the tire pressure. If they are old (more than 5-6 years), you should replace them. If it works with the summer tires, then it's likely the lateral acceleration sensor that's triggering, but I don't think it's broken. Are the wheels that are currently mounted approved for this car and in good condition?

Hi,

Do all four wheels have exactly the same size?
Possibly very different or extreme.
Is it possible to replace a single tire with a new one?

If it has nothing to do with age, unless they have absolutely no liability anymore. I'm sure Rogers' approach will lead to success.

I'm also suspecting the tires. I need to see if I can borrow a set of winter tires from a friend to try out. I'll let you know if it works out.

After a long time, I wanted to provide some feedback on this issue. It turned out that the problem was with the wheelset bearings, which were causing the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to activate.
I'm just surprised that these weren't replaced along with the front axle, especially since the control arms were replaced not long ago.
Okay, it doesn't matter now. new_all_coholic.gif The error has been fixed.
