Hello everyone,

After my Touareg R5 TDI let me down a few months ago due to an engine failure, I bought a Touareg V8 that was imported from the USA and converted to run on gas, and I'm very happy with it.

Today, I searched for a way to enable a coding option so that the original AHK (trailer hitch) that I installed would also be 'displayed' in the instrument cluster when the turn signals are activated.
However, it was all in vain...

Okay, here's the data and the questions:

- Touareg V8 4.2 automatic transmission.
- Year of construction: 07/2005
- USA Re-import.
- Bi-Xenon

Where do I need to code the AHK (Automatic Trailer Hitch) so that the additional turn signal indicator appears in the instrument cluster when a trailer is connected?

When I switch on the high beams, only the 'flaps' in front of the xenon burners open, but the halogen lamps do not light up.
When the high beam headlights are activated, the halogen lamps illuminate.
On my previous Touareg R5 TDI, which also had bi-xenon headlights, the halogen bulbs would also illuminate when the high beams were activated.
Where can I code that?

I found the following entry in the engine control unit or the instrument cluster: 'Service interval display without message - USA ONLY'.
Since I don't have a service booklet from the US and I don't know from the previous owner when the last oil change was performed, I would like to activate this service interval reminder.
But how exactly does that happen now?
Here are the translations:

'In the other options, each one mentioned something about an 'oil quality sensor'...?'
I don't know if it's installed.
Can you help me with that?

Yes, that's pretty much it for now.

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Oh yeah, I have VCDS in the latest version.

Greetings.
Marcus.

Hi Snowman!

Since you have VAG-Com: Could you please post the complete vehicle scan here so that we can see both the control unit numbers and their current coding?

Have you already checked the Diesel Mechanic forums for information? Here are all the possible encodings, broken down and explained.

Best regards from Munich!

Hello,

I'll do that right away tomorrow - I mean, I'll post the vehicle scan here.
I've already searched, but unfortunately, there are only a few coding options listed for the Touareg.

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

Marcus.

Hello Marcus,

Therefore, the information from VCDS is generally more accurate and comprehensive when it comes to recoding your instrument cluster. If you haven't updated to the latest version yet, please do so.
If VCDS has coding information for a specific control unit, it will be displayed in a tooltip when you hover your mouse cursor over the coding input field.

To know which control units are involved, it's best to post a complete vehicle scan when asking questions about this.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

The simplest option would be an interval display.
- Coding in the instrument cluster (address 17), change the second digit from the right from 3 to 0.1 or 2, see tooltip for meaning. 3. Adjust the settings from right to left, changing the order from 2 (USA) to 1 (Europe).

Post09-08-2010, 16:48    Subject: AHK Retrofitting for Touareg Quote

In theory, it should work like this:
- The trailer control module has already been registered in the gateway (address 19).
- Parking assist (address 76), adjust channel 4 to adjust the AHK (trailer hitch) length (extend it further).
- The body control module (address 9) shouldn't be involved here.

To-do: Not finished yet. Do the trailer lights blink, i.e. Trailer wiring/trailer lights and wiring harness installation - okay?

Post09-08-2010, 16:57    Subject: Touareg USA Version, High Beam Halogen + Xenon Quote

To enable the halogen headlights (normal function) in addition to the xenon headlights when using high beam, the value of 2 must be subtracted from the coding in the onboard network control unit (address 9).

See the tooltip in VCDS during coding.

Regarding the AHK (Anhängerkupplung - trailer hitch) indicator light: Are you sure that it is even still installed in your vehicle?

My Passat 3C also doesn't show the trailer hitch indicator light, but it does indicate with a lamp symbol and a text message on the MFA (Multi-Function Display) when a trailer light is faulty. (already tested).

I used to like it better, because then I would also know that I hadn't forgotten the plug icon_wink.gif.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for your efforts - you are great icon_smile.gif.

I will change the encodings tomorrow.
Regarding the AHK, I unfortunately only had one.
7-pin trailer, so I wasn't able to test all the functions.
At least, all the lights on the trailer were working, except for the reverse light.
Everything is perfect.
The PDC also switched off when the trailer was connected.
I think that should work fine.

The car already had the US-style tow hitch installed, along with the corresponding components.
Electrical system installed.
The previous owner had to remove them because, when he had the Touareg...
'He had brought these documents with him to Germany, but he was not able to have them recognized by the TÜV.'
He then removed the clutch and also the wiring harness.
The control unit and the vehicle-side electrical wiring are still installed on the fuse box located on the right side of the A-pillar.
However, the control unit no longer responded.
I then have the control unit that was supplied by Westfalia.
built-in.
Only then did the trailer lights start working.

The only thing that's still missing is the additional turn signal control.

I will test it again tomorrow after I have recompiled it.

Thank you again.

Greetings.
Marcus.

P.S. @ guste: My previous Touareg R5 TDI, manufactured in 2004, still had this feature, and according to some other users in the Touareg enthusiasts forum, this feature was still present until the 2007 facelift.

Post10-08-2010, 21:56    Subject: Question about some codings in various control units Quote

Hello everyone,

Okay, I've just made some changes to the coding, as much as possible.

Regarding the instrument cluster:

I've left the coding as it is for now.
Currently, it displays 0007031.
The 3rd. For Germany, the position from the right is set to '0'.
The 2nd. The oil level is currently at 3, and will remain there until the oil change.
The oil change was performed in January at 90,000 km.
I've now driven 100,000 kilometers.
I received the invoice from the previous owner via fax.

Then, let's talk about the parking assist feature:

The adjustment on channel 4 is not possible because channel 4 does not exist, or an error is displayed.
What could that be?

And then, regarding the high beam function in the vehicle's onboard control unit:
It worked. I simply subtracted 2, and now the halogen lamps also light up when the high beams are on.

But I just noticed something else, it's nothing serious.
When I turn on the rear fog light (by pulling the switch all the way out),
While it does light up from the back, the yellow warning light doesn't illuminate on the instrument panel.
Only the green indicator light for NSW is illuminated.

Where else can I possibly look?
The yellow warning light is illuminated during the actuator diagnosis of the engine control unit (ECU), indicating that it is not defective.

Greetings.
Marcus.

Hello,

Quote:

What could that be?

Incorrect or different data in the control unit? VAG update?

Why isn't the turn signal light working for the hazard lights?

Quote:
The car already had the US-American tow hitch with the corresponding accessories.

The previous owner had to remove them because, when he had the Touareg...

I suspect there's a wiring issue.

Quote:

Also, are you also having wiring problems?

Why don't you get a wiring diagram and see where the combination instrument gets its information about the turn signal lamps?

Your vehicle's body control module (address 09) needs to be correctly coded. Please check the diagnostic data, specifically what is displayed in the data blocks, for example, regarding the rear fog lamp, etc.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

Okay, here I am again.
So, the additional turn signal light in the dashboard still isn't working.
'However, it doesn't use a dedicated cable for this; it seems everything runs through the CAN bus.'
to which the trailer control unit is also connected.

It could be the rear fog light.
We, my father and I, discovered a single cable while installing the trailer hitch. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the front of the car and runs to the rear, towards the tailgate, where the reversing light is located.

Unfortunately, I haven't received any wiring diagrams for the Touareg yet.
I only have the documents here from my previous R5 TDI Touareg.

I'm going to take a look at the body control module and check the diagnostic trouble codes.

Greetings.
Marcus.
