Where is the thermostat located on a TDI BLS Golf 5?

The thermostat in my Golf TDI.

MKB- BLS, year of manufacture 2007

is defective and needs to be replaced urgently.

I have the 'So wirds gemacht' guide, but it doesn't describe the installation position or the replacement process.

Can anyone help me with this?
Images, links, instructions – everything is welcome.

The workshop is not an option; the warranty has expired.

I've already done this replacement on a Golf 4 before, and it wasn't a problem.

Without knowing the exact BLS engine... is it located in the same place as on all 1.9 PD TDI engines? Specifically, near the water pump, towards the crossmember, under a coolant flange? Is anything built there already?

The thermostat in the BLS model is located under the alternator, within the coolant flange.

I changed it today, and it was quite easy. Just draining the coolant is a messy job.

But...

I'm just shocked... I'm checking the part numbers again.

On the packaging (Behr), the number: 1.186.87.320 is printed (it is for...). Golf 4.

According to the Behr catalog, a suitable thermostat for a Golf 5 BLS should have the part number: 1.173.87.300.

Does this cause any problems? It certainly worked for me. Where are the differences? The dimensions, etc. The opening temperatures are identical.

The parts dealer sold me the wrong part. I'm going to lose it if I have to do this crap again.


Help, does anyone here know anything about this, or can someone take a look at the shelf and point out the differences?

I can't really say whether I'm for or against it – I'm more of a numbers person, always checking all the figures.

I replaced the thermostat today with the correct one.

While the dimensions are the same, the wax capsule in the BLS product is only half as thick as the other one.

My has lasted 60,000 km, so be happy with 100,000 km.
