Hi.

I want to do some DIY work and need to know what a G4 or A3 TDI engine looks like without its plastic cover, specifically the appearance of components like the EGR valve and general part numbers (e.g., 038 series).

I'm referring to the base of the cover attachment on the transmission side.

It's actually different from what it is in the 028 engines (like the 1Z, AFN, and AHU).

Thank you.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hello dieselmartin,

Please note that there are two different types of fasteners for the covers: one is attached to the lid with three screws, while the other is clipped onto three studs using rubber buffers (see the picture from silverbeetle).

On the New Beetle, the upper engine cover is 'screwed' on, not 'clipped' in place, even though you can pull it out after loosening the two front nuts (hidden under the covers). To reassemble everything correctly, you should also loosen the rear nut, attach the rubber buffer to the cover, and then place the entire cover onto the studs. Otherwise, it will start rattling.

Here's a tip: The studs tend to come loose, so make sure to have replacements on hand icon_idea.gif.

Hi,

I probably saw that wrong. icon_redface.gif I should really put my glasses on. icon_smile.gif

The cover on this VP37 G4 here at the company is clipped on, just like on mine (both are MJ2002 models).

Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, the PD units have the clip cover, while the VEP units have the screws.

By the way, the oil cap seems to have slid over to the other side.

I actually have an EGR cover (or similar) and I want to install it on my 1Z [car model].
Unfortunately, the bracket on the left-hand side (which is now positioned further back towards the transmission) has been changed, and I don't know how to "simulate" this on a 1Z engine, especially since the annoying crankshaft case ventilation hose is still there icon_evil.gif.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

As I mentioned above, there are also clipped VEP cover plates available.

Oops, I didn't read it carefully again. icon_eek.gif

As I said, replacing the AGR cover on a 1Z is quite a project in itself. icon_rolleyes.gif
