Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts, I have a problem and would appreciate your help.
Briefly, here's some background information:
The car, an A6 with engine code AKN (which is a VP 44), had its fuel pump fail. The diagnosis: defective pump control unit.
I had the power steering gear repaired, and the car ran for about a week, but then the power steering gear failed again.
Okay, so I got a free replacement pump control unit, and so far, it seems to be okay.
But now, here's my problem:
Inside the pump, there are two components: the high-pressure valve for flow control and the solenoid valve for controlling the start of injection. Both have two black wires each, which lead to the pump control unit.
Now I don't know which of the two cables (one pair that is thinner and one pair that is slightly thicker) I need to connect together.
Now, I don't want to remove the fuel injection lines just to potentially see which cable needs to be connected to which.
Could you please help me figure out how to approach or solve my problem?
Thank you very much in advance for your support.
Best regards, Werner. Das Leben ist schön, wenn man es lebt.

Pictures? It's best to do it the way it was connected before.

I would like to do this, but the cables on the replacement control unit have been cut to the same length, making it impossible to determine which cable goes where!
There's an article in this forum - a repair guide for a PSG 5 used with a VP 44. The PSG is shown in the article, but even then, there's not much to learn from it. This also applies to any photos I could take.
Are there other ways to advance? Das Leben ist schön, wenn man es lebt.

I don't actually see a problem here: The cable that comes out on the right side of the PSG also connects to the right side of the high-pressure valve. It's the same at the SV valve. It's best to attach 2.5mm flat connectors or round connectors to the cable ends, so you can reverse the polarity if needed.

One way, perhaps, but I don't know if it's the solution.
Perhaps I might encounter my first problem there, as I'm not sure if I might cause a short circuit.

You could check if any of the cables coming from the solenoid valve have a connection to ground. If not, and that's probably the case, nothing will happen. GruĂ Christian

Okay, I'm back.
I spoke with Bosch service.
It doesn't matter how you connect the cables, as only the clock signal is used.
So, I connected the other PSG, and now, even without the ignition on, the magnetic valve for the injection timing is constantly ticking at a high frequency.
The attempt to start the engine failed due to my weak battery.
Please share your comments.

Okay... if it hadn't, it probably would have fizzled out by now.

Funny justification
