I've already received a lot of help in the other threads, so I don't want to overdo it. However, there's relatively little information in this forum about one of the errors I'm encountering...
Upon system startup, the Xenon headlights perform a "system test," meaning they go down, then outward, then inward, then up, and finally complete the sequence. This is normal behavior. However, sometimes they get stuck in the outward position during this sequence, and while driving, you can notice that something is sticking or malfunctioning.
You're familiar with the usual scenario from the other thread: VW Hamburg says "the headlight needs to be replaced," while VW Gifhorn finds no fault and doesn't replace anything. Now, I went to a third VW dealership with the same problem and received the same statement, "it needs to be replaced," along with a quote for over €710.
To show you what I mean, I've attached a video where I repeatedly perform the "actuator diagnostic" test for "left" and "right" using VCDS. Usually, everything works perfectly, but occasionally, both headlights malfunction.
Here's something new: usually, only the left headlight causes problems. However, I've done some more research and found quite a few posts (including some from "dieselmartin" - who seems to be an expert on the subject). The general consensus was "swap parts," but I also read posts where that didn't work and the problem persisted.
It's reasonable to assume that the potentiometer or the sliding contact is faulty – if that's the case, replacing the part would likely fix the issue.
Meanwhile, I have a different theory: could it perhaps be related to the control unit? I can't imagine that the CAN bus is overloaded... And my limited understanding of the system doesn't leave much room for other possible causes...
