Normally, you can hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on.
Most often, the unit installed in the tank, along with the fuel level sender, is called the "fueling unit." Take a look under the rear seat, behind the cover, and see how many wires are connected to the connector. If there are only 2 wires, it means only the sender is installed, and there is no pump.

I know. This is my second Lupo with an AMF TDI engine, and I've never heard a pump before. There's no fuse that controls it.

I also have pretty good hearing, and I can usually hear the fuel pump right away, especially in most VAG gasoline-powered vehicles.

In addition to that, there is no fuse, even though it is listed in the owner's manual.

I hadn't taken the lid off yet...

I have the Arosa with an AMF engine, and it also doesn't have a fuel pump in the tank.
Okay, I've been specifically looking for it, but so far I haven't heard any sound.
I had a leak due to defective O-rings in the differential.

Hello, I'd like to sign up as well .

According to the VW SSP documentation, the AMF has an electric pre-feed pump.

I've also replaced the DiFi (fuel injection unit) in a lot of PPD vehicles, and I haven't come across a single one without an electric fuel pump.

The link to the SSP (Service Information) for 1.2 and 1.4 TDI engines works, but it's very slow.

As I mentioned in the other forum, the 1.2-liter engine is supposed to not have an auxiliary fuel pump, while the 1.4-liter engine should. The question is whether that statement is generally true...

I checked at the back. There are only 2 wires, so there's no pump.

Many of the early PD engines do not have a fuel pump. In such cases, it's important to ensure that the tandem pump is filled to facilitate fuel intake. Some cars have a manual pump for this purpose, but this one doesn't.

Just fill the fuel filter completely, and it should work. Otherwise, something is leaking, and the pump is drawing in air.
