Golf 4 PD Instrument Cluster

Hello everyone!

First of all, I'm new here and I would like to know if you can help me.

Ich fahre einen Golf IV PD TDI (ab Werk 74kW, jetzt aber 92kW durch Chiptuning). Da das Auto Baujahr 2002 ist, hat es noch das 'alte' Kombiinstrument. Jetzt möchte ich allerdings das 'neue' Kombiinstrument (das mit den in Chromringe eingefassten Instrumenten) einbauen lassen (ich weiß die Artikelnummer von beiden nicht; habe keine Teileliste), allerdings scheint es dabei Probleme zu geben. Ich war also heute in der Werkstatt und habe gefragt, ob ein solcher Umbau möglich wäre. Die Antwort war recht erschütternd. Möglich ist das zwar, das Problem ist allerdings, dass VW ein solches Ersatzteil nur 'sehr schwer rausrückt' (Zitat von dem Ersatzteil-Heini), weil die Wegfahrsperre und der ganze Klimbim am Kombiinstrument hängt. Als er mir dann den Preis genannt hat, wollte ich schon nicht mehr leben. Kann es wirklich sein, dass für so ein Kombiinstrument ca. 380€ (inkl. MWST) verlangt werden? Erstens sehe ich es nicht ein, so viel Geld dafür auszugeben und zweitens kommt mir dieser Preis sehr fragwürdig vor. Meine Frage ist nun: Weiß jemand, wo man ein solches Kombiinstrument herbekommen und dann auch funktionsfähig einbauen kann? VePlease don't misunderstand me, I'm not looking for any cheap junk or stolen goods, but I don't think it's right to pay over 700 DM for it.

Have you ever asked at any relevant tuning shops whether the rings can be installed retroactively?
Here's how I did it (e.g., around €35 from Milotec), and maybe the ones from the Octavia will fit in the Golf...
By the way: the €380 for the combo is already a very special price!

The price seems perfectly normal to me. After all, it includes some electronic components.

Also 380€ finde ich noch normal.Allerdings würde ich aufpassen beim abklemmen des Kombigerätes. So wie ich gehört habe muß bei vielen neueren VW-Modellen nach dem abklemmen das Steuergerät neu eingestellt werden. Also VCaution!!!!

First of all, thank you for the answers!

@TDI drivers: To my great regret, I have also heard that it might be necessary to reprogram the engine control unit. Therefore, the whole thing probably won't work, as I fear there might be problems with the modified engine control unit. It's possible that when the technicians are setting up the engine control unit, they might overwrite, modify, or do something else with the *** settings. Normally, nothing should happen, but the risk is too high for me. In the end, something might not be compatible, and then I'll be stuck - literally.

What needs to be adjusted depends on the encoding of the WFS or the signals for CAN, etc.
Since it's possible to remap the controls, it's likely not stored in the ROM itself, but rather in a separate memory area.
They won't change anything about the injector connectors so that you can replace the instrument cluster!

When it comes to instrument clusters, the following distinctions need to be made:
'Up to 05/99 -> No CAN bus detected on part number 1J0 919...'
Starting from 05/99, CAN-Bus -> Part number 1J0 920...
1J0 = Standard AI.
1J5 = AI with chrome rings.
Starting with the model year 01, the WFS (Vehicle Security System) was changed from Immobilizer II to Im. III. The different WFS versions are NOT compatible with each other, but there are no issues starting with the model year 01.
Then there's the question of whether it has Multi-Function Steering (MFS), and if so, which type (Highline or Midline), and whether it's a gasoline or diesel engine.
So, a tachometer is not a problem with the RIGHT AI. At a well-known auction house, you can find tachometers for around €150, but without any warranty.
At 'Freundlichen,' the cost is between €450 and €550. In addition, the data needs to be read out and transferred to the new AI system (a service charge applies), and the keys need to be adjusted (or replaced).
Up to an original mileage of 100 kilometers on the instrument cluster (IC), the workshop (or using OBD software) can adjust the mileage. After that, it is no longer possible.
