Hi,

Okay, here's the translation:

"It's happened again. Yesterday, my BMW's engine started sputtering in 6th gear between 1700 and 2200 RPM. Everything went back to normal above 2300 RPM. What's strange is that the sputtering only occurs when the car shows a water temperature of 90°C; it doesn't happen when the engine is colder."
"Glow plugs, PD wiring harness, and PPD components (new version T) were also replaced less than 10,000 km ago. The error memory is clear, and all values appear normal. The DPF currently has approximately 120,000 km and 39g of ash, and regenerates roughly every 300-400 km."
The car has no water leaks or oil sludge. It sometimes emits a little white smoke in the morning, but this usually disappears after about 20 minutes when the engine is warm.
The error memory is also clear. The timing belt was replaced 2 weeks ago at the VW dealership, and they also checked the condition of the high-pressure pumps (PDE) using a pressure gauge connected to the tandem pump. A pressure of 10 bar was maintained overnight.

I'm really at my wit's end with this car; it feels like barely a month goes by without it having some kind of problem.

Edit: I replaced the PD cable harness for the 3rd time yesterday, but unfortunately, it didn't work this time. The stutter is still there. icon_sad.gif

Maybe someone among you has an idea.

Hello,

Very short, and probably quite simple:

Diesel filter?

A colleague of mine had a similar issue with his Touareg as well... also with the large diesel engine (V10). In those cases, the diesel filters often need to be replaced significantly before the recommended interval.

Happy New Year.

Hi, thanks for the tip, I will definitely switch it now, even though my filter is only 1.5 years old and has less than 20,000 km on it.

Maybe I'll get lucky.

Hi, it wasn't the diesel filter. The misfire is still there...

But the PD elements are new, and the seats are comfortable, right?

Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate.

Hi, yes, the PPDE components are new as of last April. A new sealing set was also installed. I've already had the pressure of the tandem pump checked with a pressure gauge. It held the 10 bar overnight, so those seals should be okay.

Best regards.

It seems like the only thing that could be the problem is the cylinder head. Is there a way to test it without removing it?

Has the pressure from the pre-pump been checked? Also, the control circuit (relay) should be checked, as there might be intermittent faults.

Hi, yes, apparently my mechanic checked the pressure with a gauge before Christmas when I had the timing belt replaced.
"The statement seems correct, and everything matches. However, I couldn't find any mention of it on the invoice. Therefore, I'm not entirely sure if my mechanic was just too lazy to check it properly. I'll ask him about it tomorrow to address the issue again."
I inquired about the pressure requirement, and it must be at least 10 bar, but I don't know for what duration.
I would laugh if he could actually say something, but I'm starting to suspect that, as I've already said, he was too lazy to connect the pressure gauge to the tandem pump and let it run for a few hours...
I replaced the elements last April, but I didn't press them fully into the head using the pressing tool, so it's possible that something wasn't completely sealed. However, I lubricated the bore in the head well with silicone spray and engine oil to ensure the elements slid in easily, and they did.
"There was a distinct 'clunk' sound when I inserted them into the head. I tightened the screws alternately, turn by turn, following VW's instructions: 3 Nm, then 90 degrees, and then I think 180 degrees, as specified in the ELSA manual. Everything was fine all summer; the car ran perfectly. It only started to stutter when it got really cold, and it only does that when the water temperature gauge shows 90°C."
Is the relay in question the one located under the engine control unit? Shouldn't a defect in it trigger an error code in the diagnostic memory?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.

Tom.

Hi, fixed the issue. The friendly mechanic forgot to measure the pressure. So, I replaced the seals of the PD elements, and the misfire is gone. Now, it starts up perfectly every morning, even after a long period of inactivity!

Best regards.
