'Hi, I drove home today and suddenly, when I pressed the gas pedal in 5th gear, the car started to jerk. It doesn't do this in the other gears, and it only happens when the car is under load. What could it be, and is it harmful? I have a chip installed. Thanks, Erik.'

So, it only vibrates between 1600 and 1900.

It sounds familiar, but I need to know more details.
What kind of car, engine, chip, etc.?

Many TDIs, especially those that have been tuned, experience this issue. There's a lot of discussion about it in this forum, but no one seems to be completely sure about the cause. Mine only happened when the temperature was below freezing, and fortunately, it was only a minor issue.
My friend said it's probably due to the drive shafts or the transmission.
Here in the forum, it's often said that this has something to do with the two-mass flywheel and certain vibrations that occur.
The chip tuner said it's likely due to the engine mounts becoming old and brittle, which allows vibrations from the engine to be transmitted to the body. If that's the case, it will likely get worse over time.
I know of a car that wasn't modified (a 130PS TDI in a Passat) where this started happening at 60,000 km, and now even people who are less paranoid than I am are noticing it.
Stefan.

Okay, so I have an AFN engine with 81 kW, and it has a chip from Quickchip.
I.

I have no experience with the 81kW AFN engine.
Cheap chips often cause stuttering issues when used with the 1Z.
I drove for about 50,000 km with a jerky feeling. This started immediately after installing the chip and disappeared when I switched back to the original chips.
I avoided exceeding the speed limit during that time.
I have now adjusted my chip so that I can finally drive smoothly, even with low fuel consumption and a lot of power .
Ultimately, it was probably related to the LMM...

'I have a slight vibration in my Audi 80 at around 1700 rpm, but it's not really noticeable. Now, after installing a DigiTec chip, I've developed a slightly stronger vibration at 1400 rpm, which is becoming a bit annoying overall.'
How can I eliminate stuttering by adjusting or replacing a chip?

Hello.
Here's something that just occurred to me:
Could the jerking only occur in "chipped" engines due to "unclean" transitions between the original and modified sections} (torque, soot, driver preference), similar to the jerking-prone transition between idle and partial load, e.g., due to an overly rich fuel pump setting (VP 37)? Gruß Ulf

If the tuner is working correctly, there will be no 'unclean' transitions.
If the tuning is done properly, the optimized areas in terms of RPM and engine load will align perfectly, which means there will be no jerking or instability.
Problems only arise when people, like many cheap tuners, simply mess around with the fuel and air mixture using a generic percentage adjustment. This can lead to disharmonious transitions, which are particularly noticeable in the partial load range and at low RPMs. However, you may have to accept this if you buy cheap chips.
