Hello everyone!
I'm having a small problem. For some time now, my A6 has been vibrating on the highway at speeds of around 140 km/h (approximately 87 mph). The front tires were recently balanced during installation. You don't really feel a strong vibration in the steering wheel, but rather it feels like the entire car is vibrating. The rear tires were balanced last year, and the weights are still all attached, so nothing has fallen off. I'm out of ideas about what else it could be. You don't notice anything at lower speeds.
Does anyone have any ideas about what triggers this effect, or how to get to the bottom of it?
Thank you for your help!!
DENNIS

Hi Dennis!
Have you ever checked your tie rod ends for play?
With that kind of mileage, several suspension components are likely worn out!

Hello Alex!
Yes, I had that done too. Everything should be fine. This week, the TÜV inspection found nothing wrong with the vehicle except for a small oil leak from the valve cover gaskets.

Hello Michael!
You don't hear anything from the wheel bearings.
I honestly don't know if they have any games. I'll test it out, though...
Or do you mean something else?

Hi,
Excessive play in the rear wheel bearings can cause this effect.
Also, these are also tires that show fabric tears on the inside. You might want to have the rear ones checked.
The constant velocity joints of the drive shafts may be worn out due to mileage. When the vehicle is stationary, these joints should not have any radial play. It is usually harmless if you can slightly distort the waves without the wheel moving.
Regards,
Olli.
