Expensive Cars: No Car Washes Allowed.

Besides the fact that very few people would even consider doing it, it is FORBIDDEN by Audi to take a new A8 to a car wash!
Why? The exterior chrome trim is made of a certain percentage of aluminum, and the harsh cleaning agents used in car washes would cause it to fade, peel, flake, warp, or otherwise deteriorate.

Audi doesn't pay a single cent for damages like that.

Even though everyone has enough money to have their car professionally hand-washed, I can hardly imagine that years of using regular hand-wash shampoo is really less aggressive than a car wash, because those machines don't verschandeln that well either. But probably, in 5 years, Audi won't have to offer any kind of warranty or compensation based on that.

I've experienced that before too.
I drive a Passat Variant Highline with the chrome trim on the bumpers.

After a visit to the car wash, the paint on the side was completely dull. It had turned a milky color. While it did improve, I don't think it's as glossy as it was before .
