Xenon Replacement Touareg

Hello.

A friend and I are planning to replace the control units of our xenon headlights soon because the xenon bulbs are "flickering."

Unfortunately, replacing the burner will not help anymore.

Unfortunately, the Stge unit from Volkswagen costs a fortune per piece. However, the manufacturer of the headlights, and presumably also the Stge unit itself, offers identical Stge units that are compatible with the Megane 2.

These parts do not have a Volkswagen OEM part number.

My friend has already done this, bought it and installed it... Actually, everything is fine, the xenon headlights are working again without any problems. However, the low beam headlight range adjuster is no longer working!
Also, the control units 29/39 (left/right lighting control) are now inaccessible.

Okay, here's the silly question:
Do they need to be re-trained or re-registered?

If so, could someone please provide me with instructions so I can try this?
Or can someone here provide a solution to this problem!

That's probably just how Renault STG models are designed.
Regarding compatibility, you can find support either from Valeo or in the Megane forum.

How do you conclude that the control units must function exactly like the originals?
I highly doubt that a Renault engine control unit would communicate with a VAG gateway.

You're probably right...

It is NOT a Renault part, but an original VAELO component. It also fits models like the Megane 2 (12-pin version).

I honestly can't imagine that VW would now have a Valeo subsidiary manufacture a specific part for this car... considering everything I've experienced with this car (like replacing the entire driveshaft for €1400, even though only the intermediate bearing was broken...). They'd rather use standard parts to make a lot of money.

The Touareg with cornering lights already has a device with 4 pins, and Valeo also offers this as a "replacement part" for Renault and other vehicles.

I can't say for sure if everything is the same now (LWR integrated).... it will probably also be related to the air suspension, as the LWR signals likely come from the air suspension sensors.

I can't say for sure right now whether other people in the Touareg forum also have air suspension. I mean, in the AKTE system, there's no distinction made between models with and without air suspension for these control units.

Unfortunately, it was a bit naive to buy and install the component.
At first, I thought maybe all that was needed was to re-register them and add a little something extra.

Hi,

Valeo manufactures parts for all sorts of manufacturers. Depending on the intended recipient, they then attach different part numbers and price tags, and flash the corresponding firmware onto the device. This allows the VAG device to communicate with VAG cars, and the Renault device to communicate with Renault cars.

"They might still have the same basic structure from a hardware perspective, but that's completely irrelevant."

Thank you for the information!

It only says "Valeo xxx" on it... no part number from Renault or anything like that. If it had been a Renault part, he probably wouldn't have bought it so naively.

Okay, let me ask a really basic question: Is there a way to transfer the information from my current device to the new one?

Sure, but not for you, unless you recreate the manufacturing process in your home workshop.

This also applies to the xenon control units for the Golf 4, Bora, and Sharan models.

You can also attach headlights from, for example, BMW to it.
The headlights appear to be working, but the entire aLWR (Advanced Lighting and Visibility System) is not functioning, and the control units are not accessible via the diagnostic system.
It is also sufficient if only the slave control unit on the passenger side is not from VW. In that case, the master control unit will also only report an error indicating that the other control unit is defective.

To be honest, I'm not really surprised.
