Hello everyone.
The airbag control unit in my Passat 3B is defective. Currently, a control unit with the part number 8LO959655A is installed there.
Okay, so my question is, is this the right approach? Because my predecessor really messed things up with this machine.
The car is a 1998 model with a 1.8-liter engine and 125 horsepower.
The following error was detected using VCDS:
Number 65535 - Control unit defective.
and 00-10, occasionally.

Yes, if the vehicle is equipped with side airbags.
If "no" side airbags are installed, then use part number 3B0 959 655B.

"That's already very helpful. Now my question is: Has the control unit been replaced with one that has a different part number, specifically one with side airbags in the seats? Mine is defective, and I'm looking for an affordable alternative since the car only cost €1600."

Counter question: Do your seats have side airbags or not?

The answer you receive will also help you determine which engine control unit (ECU) you need as a replacement. Given the age of the vehicle, you might even have some luck finding one at your local junkyard.

Greetings.
Sure.

Here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Guste" means "gust" in English. It refers to a sudden and strong gust of wind.

For Passat 3B/G models manufactured in Germany, seat airbags were always standard.icon_wink.gif Please add 'German' before it, as the statement only applies to vehicles manufactured in Germany.
At least with the 3B models, there were certain export options available even without icon_wink.gif.

I can't understand it. It must be because we are in Germany, and 99% of the people also own German vehicles. icon_cool.gif

But even with Swedish, Finnish, and Canadian/US models, I don't know of any that don't have these airbags. icon_wink.gif

"It seems I was misunderstood. I understood that the control unit is included. Now, my question, which I admittedly phrased incorrectly, was this."
According to the "AKTE" catalog, the engine control unit has either part number 1JO909607A or 3BO909605A. Therefore, I'm a bit confused and would like to know which one I can or should install.

The ECUs mentioned earlier are from Bosch and were installed up to part number 3B-W-113559*.
Following that, the aforementioned Siemens frequency converters will be used.

It appears that they are mixed together near the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) area.

More details may be clarified by the icon_lol.gif, possibly.
