Hello everyone in the forum community,

I've already tried searching extensively, but I haven't found anything suitable using the keywords I've used.

Specifically:

I'm planning to change the oil in my 2.0 PD DPF (BMN) GTsport, and I've been reading about other viscosity options besides 5w30, such as 0w40.

My questions:

Do you have any experience with other types of oil? Or would you only recommend using 50700 or 5w30?

If the budget is only 50700, which brand should it be? There are always various discussions about ash formation and similar issues, but I don't have enough technical knowledge, especially when it comes to oils, to form a truly informed opinion!

Currently, Castrol Edge is likely the oil being used. Are there any alternatives available, perhaps even better ones?

"I drive 70% on highways or expressways, and I tend to drive quite fast. Because I often cover a lot of kilometers and want to do it quickly, mainly for the sake of saving time, I would be willing to change my oil, for example, after only 15 or 20,000 kilometers if it would offer any benefits!"

Sure, here's the translation:

"Thank you very much in advance!"

Best regards.
Alex.

Hello,

There have already been countless discussions about the topic of "oil," and anyone who believes in the Easter Bunny also believes, stubbornly, that brand X or Y is the ultimate solution. icon_wink.gif

It should be the oil that is specified in the instruction manual and is suitable for the engine.

I haven't generally had good experiences with Castrol, even though the logo is printed on the oil cap. I observed a significant discrepancy between the "brand image" and what you actually see when you remove the cylinder head cover at a mileage of 100,000 km, especially if you've done this on the same engine type before.
I will only use oil in my vehicles that offers a good price-performance ratio, regardless of the brand. I will adhere to the specified maintenance intervals (fixed interval), and I will NOT use extended oil change intervals.
The vehicles are usually sold with 300,000 km on the odometer, and oil-related problems are not apparent "from the top" and never occur again afterwards. The reason for removing the cylinder head cover was also not due to the oil; I probably wouldn't have noticed anything during a regular oil change.

Thank you, Rainer. I probably should have left out the "BMN" in the search, then it would have probably shown me the thread already icon_biggrin.gif.

Well, of course, there's no absolute "best" in the oil category... there almost never is anywhere! What's important to me is that the engine is optimally protected and that my DPF isn't unnecessarily clogged with ash, because oil tends to burn with a lot of soot.

I've already adjusted my flexible maintenance interval, so it now triggers a service at a maximum of 22,000 km, because I personally find 30,000 km to be too long... it's just a feeling.

In that thread, countless oils are mentioned, including Liqui Moly, Fuchs Titan, Mobil, and so on.

What do you personally use? I'm also considering the Mobil ESP, but I've also used Ravenol in my Golf IV ASZ PD before and was very satisfied with it... it had good fuel economy, and the oil seemed to stay relatively clean when it was drained!

It's always difficult when you're not an expert in the field!

Best regards.
Alex.

Ditto.

I have personally been using Ravenol for a long time, and so far I haven't had any problems.

It's a matter of belief more than a matter of price. Considering what people pay for } for motor oil, you might think it's the cheapest junk in the world, but it's not.

As I said, I'm not tied to any specific brand. Currently, I have Fuchs Titan GT1 PRO-C3 5W-30 in the garage.

Best regards, Rainer.

It's the same for me. 40 liters for 4.98€/liter (including shipping). It's a German product, and I haven't had any problems with it so far, so it should be fine icon_wink.gif.
