Okay,
I think I'm not going to do nothing this winter.
But I always carefully remove the salt and dirt with a brush in the letter spaces, so that nothing can settle and get stuck.
If it's then warm (i.e., warmer than 12 degrees today), we'll continue with foam and brake cleaner
Thank you for your tips.

I would never use brake cleaner on new or old paint. The maximum amount is gasoline. And even after years, there was very little dirt, and even after two salt-rich winters in the mountains, nothing had been eaten into it eaten. That's not a Lada . Gruß

So, this is a really cute topic... you're working on the most complicated things in the engine, but you give up before even removing the type plates
I did it this way:
- Agreeing with words (Alternatively, you can also use a screwdriver)
- Remaining adhesive, easily removed with nails
- Apply a thin coat of turpentine, then quickly polish, and it's done.
The letters were on for 3 years and were hardly cleaned, so you can't see them anymore.

OK, I'm just an experienced person:
I had the 95 G3 CL Europe until recently. After I had upgraded everything I could "externally," the Golf_CL was too much, so I got rid of it. He was approximately 7 years old.
The previous owner probably didn't know anything about rags or a car wash...
Even with Rot-Weiss cleaning paste (applied multiple times) and all other polishes, I couldn't remove the dirt shadows _around_ the former lettering. "The Golf_CL, having been freshly washed, allows you to perfectly read shadows "
This shouldn't happen to my Passat... on the other hand, I also don't want to risk getting a new tailgate because I've damaged it (e.g. Paint with peel-off).
... I can now change the timing belt and cylinder heads, but removing the stickers is new to me

I did this with my 4er (BMP) after 2 years.
Using a string to cut out the letters, then using a silicone remover to remove the remaining adhesive residue.
After polishing, if you looked very closely, you could still see the lettering.
For a new car, this shouldn't be a problem at all.

...after 1 year, I removed all the emblems and lettering from the rear. Then, I used a lot of water to remove all the dust, as I didn't want to scratch the paint with it. A very mild polish removed the last traces of shadow around the lettering.
On my Suzuki, all the parts came off completely and cleanly with just a slight lift with my fingernail. There were no traces of adhesive left on the paint. I strongly advise against using screwdrivers!

I would prefer to order the car without the emblems and purchase the TDI separately, and then attach it myself. This would be the simplest and most gentle way. That's not how much the TDI logo should cost. VW Golf V, 1,9 TDI, 77KW, BLS, 2007;

Yeah, dude,
I had the same idea, but unfortunately too late. Ordered on 12/04, received on 12/10. P-Status and therefore no longer editable
Otherwise, it would also have had a USB port now...

The facial expression should be roughly the same as when he removes the license plates from his new €40,000 car and the paint stays stuck to them

Is there actually a DIY tip on how to re-attach the tailgate lettering (e.g., when replacing the tailgate)? I have limited trust in hot glue.

If the paint is still stuck to the type plate below, you can use a small amount of fresh paint to re-adhere it.
Otherwise, I would use Tesa Powerbond or something similar.
Best regards, Rainer

Just take a new one.

It's about the Lupo - the green 3L needs to be put back in the back, otherwise it's not complete . It costs around 16 euros for the new green TDI and another 12.50 euros for the green Lupo 3L - so I'll try to come up with a DIY solution first.
Let's see if Powerbond can be cut, or if it's better to use scissors or a utility knife instead.

Trick dabei: Freeze! Then cut with the new blade.
Alternative suggestion: Instead, have the letter sets professionally printed on high-quality vinyl and then stick them on. You won't be able to tell from close up that they're not original. Furthermore, this avoids the dirt around the plastic letters, which even car washes can't remove. Price: 5 EUR here, if you don't want to take it away immediately (it can be picked up the next day).
