Hello,
Short question: I ordered a timing tool (from Famex) for the 1.9 PD-TDI engine, but the crankshaft stop didn't fit (on the AVB engine).
Are there multiple variations?

If positioned correctly, it means inserting it from the front at the marked location. The rear wheel (KW Rad) is slightly "oval," so it only fits in this specific spot.

What is the VAG part number for this item? There are two different ones.
As mentioned before, it can be somewhat "difficult" to use.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a VAG number, I can only post a photo.
There are two versions of the Famex, but according to the description, only the 2.0 version has an oval kilowatt wheel.

The difference is: on one, the marking is roughly in the middle, while on the other, it's on the right! Otherwise, they are the same in terms of shape. They can only be inserted from the side.

In addition... the tool with the marking on the right side is for the oval version, while the one with the marking in the middle is for the older, round version.
It can only be attached in an axial direction. It's impossible to do it from the side. Also, the wrong tool can't be inserted into the sprocket, at least not with my tools.

Hm, in my case, it fails on all 1.9 and 2.0 PD engines. The game was so good that there was hardly any difference - so far, countless TDI engines have had a smooth ZR change with it. It's a shame I don't remember which manufacturer it's from. Anyway, it's working so far.

It should be possible, but without the vehicle data, our research will be difficult.
Did you also try to push it in exactly parallel and axially? These things are manufactured with extreme precision - a rough approach won't work.

"Yes, it looks very good so far. I completely agree with the previous comment. You need to rotate the crankshaft (KW) so that you can slide the tool parallel to the crankshaft axis. To do this, the marking on the crankshaft/tool should be roughly at the 11 o'clock position."

...and the small triangle in the picture should be aligned with the corresponding mark on the timing belt pulley of the crankshaft.
Perhaps the crankshaft was not at Top Dead Center (TDC). Observe the mark on the clutch bell. Since the locking tool fits quite tightly, it may be helpful to gently move the crankshaft back and forth when inserting it.
I'm putting a wrench on the central bolt on the crankshaft, which you're not really supposed to do, but the crankshaft turns so easily that only a complete... well, let's not use that word... idiot would accidentally loosen that bolt, because it's really tightened down.
Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, usually nothing works because it's very secure. For example, with older AFN & 1Z and similar models, you sometimes randomly discover that it's loose.
