Hi everyone, I discovered this forum while browsing the internet yesterday, and I have to say it's great.

Here's my question: I drive an A6 2.5 TDI AEL, manufactured in June 1996, and this weekend I had to replace the pressure hose from the intercooler to the intake manifold. While doing so, I noticed that the entire intake system, starting from the turbocharger, is completely full of soot and oil deposits.
Can someone perhaps tell me where this might be coming from?

Best regards, Stephan.

Hello.
First, read what has already been written about it. Look for 'Druckrohr' (pressure pipe) and 'Öl' (oil). icon_wink.gif

I'm focusing on the long-term consequences of the AGR icon_wink.gif.

Hi,

Could you please share the mileage of your AEL?
I'm interested, especially because of the deposits.
Thank you.

Hi,

Maximum speed: approximately 230 km/h (with chip from Nothelle, 160 hp), mileage: 267,000 km.

Absolutely correct!
after I disconnected them (solution: metal plate), everything remains clean icon_wink.gif.

Post19-09-2003, 23:48    Subject: verschandeln Intake Manifold: Improve Engine Performance Quote

Hello.

I once posted the following text:

*********************************************************

I used a steam cleaner. It was urgently needed, as there was up to 5mm of buildup in some areas.

After that, the manifold is clean, but everything around you looks like a complete mess.

DON'T DO IT IN YOUR OWN GARDEN! (Use your mother-in-law's garden instead!)

Okay, I've disconnected the EGR valve, and the soot belongs in the exhaust, not in the engine!

Did cleaning the intake manifold have any effect on performance or soot production?

I've now reached 218,000 km, and I'm considering doing the same thing!

What about the ventilation ducts in the control room? Are those also narrowed?

Regards,

Manuel.

How about the fresh air ducts in the ZK, are those also so constricted?

Yes.
But the worst thing I saw was the condition of the intake valves...

Did you just leave it like that, hoping for the broken AGR valve to self-clean?, or did you manually intervene?

Regards,

Manuel.

No.
It doesn't verschandeln itself.

I had the cylinder head removed, and then I took out the valves, etc.

but I wouldn't cut off my head just for that reason... icon_wink.gif

Does one actually pass the emissions test with a disconnected EGR valve?

(assuming the examiner knows nothing about it?)

Yes, the leave of absence is not a problem!

No, I certainly wouldn't remove the head for that, but what other ways are there to verschandeln the channels in the ZK (amplifier)?

Regards,

Manuel.

To my knowledge, yes, because NOx (which is increased when the EGR system is faulty) is not measured, but only CO, CxHy, and soot. These three values are actually better when the EGR system is defective.

Hello,
I once had the following idea:
1. Remove the glow plug and use compressed air to blow out the cylinder from that opening, ensuring that everything is cleared out and nothing falls in.
2. Attach a small bottle brush, gun cleaner, or similar tool to a cordless screwdriver and use it to verschandeln the intake channel.

Probably, we first need to put the motor in a suitable position. Then, theoretically, it could work quite well. However, I haven't actually done it yet. But it's probably going to be as unpleasant as using a steam cleaner new_tomato.gif.

Regards,

Eike.
