This is what I experienced this morning. The problem: I can't find any leaks on the intake side anywhere. It must be somewhere before the mass airflow sensor (MAF), otherwise it wouldn't be detected, right?

Between the LMM (lambda sensor) and the engine. If it's not a bug, then a cracked hose, a leak in the intercooler, or a faulty EGR valve could be the cause.
*Assumption:* The engine control unit (ECU) detects a low actual boost pressure, even though the measured air mass is more than sufficient. *Assumption ended.*
Best regards, Rainer.

a) Software error - there's now software version 4346 available for the BMN!
b) Areas with mass buildup: disassemble, thoroughly clean, tighten, and seal.
c) Volkswagen offers a repair wiring harness for around 20 euros under the part number 1KD 971 658. This will also fit the 8P model.
d) Occasionally, a faulty pressure sensor may also be the cause.

Thank you for the tips. The turbo has been whistling for a while, but I actually wanted to take the car on vacation. The hoses are dry. Tomorrow, I will carefully inspect everything again in the pit and check the EGR valve. If I don't find anything there, then the next step is: vagtuning wrote: | | a) Software error - for a BMN engine, software version 4346 is now available! |
Great. Somehow, this piece of junk engine now has more "service packs" than Windows does...
Best regards and thank you.
Peter.

07-06-2009, 21:05 Subject: The resolution |

I still need to provide the resolution: The electronics were completely right; the intercooler hose had a leak. The hose was torn directly at the "metal collar" of this quick-connect fitting and had popped out.
See image.
To be honest, I find it a bit weak after 80,000 kilometers.
"Interesting," this error is also caused by the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). Due to the soot produced by a lack of air, the filter becomes clogged so quickly that after just a few kilometers, you'll likely see the friendly "Particle Filter Malfunction" message. The engine control unit probably also skips regeneration cycles in emergency mode, meaning you won't be able to travel very far with the DPF in emergency mode. A mobility guarantee â or carrying a spare set of intercooler hoses â will become essential...
Regards,
Pete.

Hello Pschäfer!
Thank you very much for your feedback!
"...as they say, one never stops learning, although I've never actually seen that happen..."
It's surprising that there isn't more oil residue around the affected area.
Best regards from Munich!
