Hi.

"I've noticed that my Octavia 2.0 TDI with the BMM engine has more soot buildup in the filter during the summer. In February, I logged the data a few times and the soot level was consistently between 10-15% until I reached the 400km mark, which triggered the regeneration process. Now, in the summer, I'm mostly seeing around 35% soot buildup after 400km, and I've even reached 40% a few times, which also triggered the regeneration."

Is it due to the higher outside temperature, or does the car have a problem?

According to the tooltip or whatever it's called in VCDS, 1-2% soot output per 100km is supposed to be normal, which would actually make sense.

The engine runs with a higher excess of air and therefore produces less soot in the winter due to the increased air mass at the same volume and the lower intake air temperature.

Are the differences really as significant as your percentages suggest?

Best regards, Rainer.

Since the MSG only calculates the soot level and doesn't measure it directly, factors like different oil/oil consumption, different fuel, etc., are largely excluded as influencing factors.

What about the more basic things: Is your driving style and route profile currently similar to what it was in February?

I find it hard to believe that such a significant difference in percentages could be solely due to the outside temperature.

Greetings.
Guste.

Hi.

Why doesn't the differential pressure sensor measure the difference, it only calculates it?
The driving profile hasn't changed, I haven't used any different oil, and the oil consumption hasn't increased. Also, I'm using the same fuel.
It's possible it was just a coincidence. I now have a Polarfox monitor, so I can keep an eye on it and see if it changes. Or maybe it's actually the fuel, because it's still from last winter (I bought 500 liters at the time).

Hi.
Today, I checked again and drove 180km since the regeneration cycle. Of that, 50km was with a 1.6-ton trailer. The DPF filter is currently at 18%. This seems to align with the reading in VCDS, which indicates a 1-2% increase per 10km under normal driving conditions. I have no idea why it was lower before.
Today, I found a leak in the area of the AGR valve (it's hard to see exactly because the transmission and other components are in the way). Everything there is very sooty, which would also explain why it's been smelling like exhaust fumes at traffic lights lately. There are no error codes stored, and the car is running normally, but maybe the soot is contributing to the problem.

Can you somehow take a picture of the Russian spot?

My two cars also smell bad when I'm stopped at a traffic light... but I've never found anything (I've never felt or seen anything).

Hi.
Unfortunately, I don't have any more time to take the car to the stage these days, and on Monday it's going to my trusted mechanic because I don't have the time or desire to mess around with the AGR system.
"We saw soot deposits on the engine and on the small pipe connecting the exhaust manifold to the EGR cooler. I can't see much more because the all-wheel drive system obstructs the view."
