The repair cost includes the cat, a new cylinder head, and the cylinder head, and for what you're getting, 1800€ doesn't seem that bad at all. But it will soon exceed the value of the car itself.

Yesterday I reassembled the box again, and now it's working perfectly again.

Although the MKL was still running when starting and shutting down yesterday, I didn't have my VCDS device with me to clear the memory once. I didn't feel like taking a test drive yesterday evening.
We also replaced the timing chain, which was probably overdue. The old chain could be removed from the sprocket after one of the guide rails was removed, but the new chain also wouldn't go on the wheel without both rails, so the wheel had to be removed and the chain reattached to the crankshaft. She must have been a bit tired after all.

Anyway, the engine is now running much smoother at idle than before, and I hope that the check engine light will also turn off after the error memory is cleared.
