Hi

I currently have a 2005 Skoda Fabia with a 1.2l BMD engine that I'm having serviced, and the engine warning light keeps coming on.
As an error, the fuel metering system is set to "too much" (16556). Is also too fatty, candles get smoky.
"I deleted the error, but it reappeared after a short time, then the light went out, and a second error appeared later (I didn't remember the exact code, icon_cry.gif). The error message indicates that the K-sensor is not functioning, which could be due to the overly rich mixture."

I have checked the fuel tank ventilation system and it is functioning correctly. Temperature and suction tube pressure sensor are also fine.
The fuel pressure I measured is 3.4-3.5 bar. What should it be? I found two different values: 3 bar and 4 bar. There is no code for the fuel pressure regulator on a sticker, and I haven't had a chance to remove the regulator yet. If the engine is only supposed to have 3 bar of fuel pressure, then it's also clear why it's running rich.

Hi

Okay, after a long back-and-forth, I finally continued. The fuel pressure, of course, was not the issue.
Sporadically, the problem still persists: the cat is not working adequately, but something new has also appeared: misfires on the second cylinder. Yesterday, I checked while the engine was running, and the counter started counting wildly. The ignition coil is OK. Even though I unplug the coil, the machine still runs poorly (something seems to ignite occasionally).
Spark plug is oily icon_sad.gif and after a while, the 2nd cylinder stalls when idling. The cylinder is completely out of use, the engine is only sputtering (at this point, it doesn't even register the misfires), but with a little gas, you can get it working again.
The fuel injector and ignition coil are fine, so I'll probably have to disassemble the engine at some point icon_confused.gif

The misfires would definitely explain why the cat wasn't working properly.

Hello,

I would suggest a compression test due to the simple procedure of the gasoline engine. If the result is 2. Cylinders also appear to be damaged; it seems the only option is to disassemble them...

Is the (only one?) candle actually oily, or is it just soot due to incomplete combustion? What do the other candles look like? With a long screwdriver, you can also stop individual cylinders while idling - the handle fits onto the skull bone and the other end taps on something massive. You can actually hear a misfire quite well with that.

After viewing, at least verschandeln the candles, and if necessary, correct the electrode distance. Swapping candles and ignition coils can also be interesting, and if the fault moves with the new components, then the cause was already known.

How are the engine crankshaft housing ventilation and AGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) designed? Can oil or oil-based sealant cause problems during valve curing?

The compression test is still recommended, regardless of any other suggestions.

And finally, the usual questions: What about water and oil consumption? Are both the circular loops only water and only oil?

Hi

Forgot to mention: The candles are new and I have already replaced candles and spools, but the second cylinder always remained. I will perform the compression test again.
The box also consumes oil, but I don't know how much.

Compression Cylinder 1=12.9 Bar 2=9.3bar 3=14 Bar.
Tomorrow, we will disassemble it, and see what comes to light.

Tomorrow, we'll dismantle it, and see what emerges.

Thank you for your feedback! I'm curious to see...

Hi

Yesterday evening, I disassembled the engine, and lo and behold, the exhaust valve of the second cylinder was burned.

Head goes to the fitter who installs a new valve, inspects the head, and then hopefully, everything runs smoothly again.

Of course, this would explain why the "Catalytic Converter Insufficient" message was always in the fault memory. This also means that the engine cannot burn properly. I didn't know why there was still "excess fat" in the memory, but let's see what happens when it's back together.

Thank you for the image! Can I ask what the engine's power output is?

Hi
Sure, it has just under 140,000 km. The guide rails of the timing chain look good, I thought you could also see something there, but they don't have any wear marks.

Hi Turri! icon_wink.gif

That clearly indicates a secondary damage due to {CAUSE}. Valve overheating.
What was the engine's oil consumption like before, and what does the piston ring look like?

Best regards from Munich!

Hi

Oil consumption is a bit high, but since it's not my car, I can't say anything specific about it (Women obviously don't regularly check the oil icon_confused.gif). I haven't disassembled the valve and piston, and the head is already with the repair technician; he will take a look at it and repair it if possible.
With 3 cylinders, however, burnt valves tend to occur more frequently.
Regardless, I'm going to wait and see what the repair person says first, and then we'll proceed from there.

Hi Turri! icon_wink.gif

It's possible that burnt valves are a common occurrence - not just in the 1.2 VAG engine icon_wink.gif
Nevertheless, there is always a cause, and it represents a secondary damage.

If you experience significant oil consumption, you can either: Valve shaft seals: Hopefully, the repair technician will notice something at the valve guide, or the problem lies in the piston ring area.

Tip: Try to get all the pistons roughly into the middle position, fill each cylinder with a defined amount of diesel, and measure the fill level height at hourly intervals. If, for example, the 2nd cylinder is already empty within an hour here, then the actual Cause of vent fan fire found, which is not really ideal for the 1.2L now.

Best regards from Munich!

Hi,

The cause appears to be related to the category, according to some research on the internet. In any case, it appears to be included in the official Skoda repair kit.

Check with Skoda to see if a corresponding repair kit for your BMD is available. Otherwise, the error will reappear at some point.

I would have expected this more as a consequence. Or is something blocking the outflow from the middle cylinder?

The last one. The very engine-adjacent Kat was apparently placed further away from the engine during the overhaul. For the 1.2 3-cyl engines, according to various... Reports are increasingly indicating that valves are burning out.

If you search for "1.2 bmd kat", you will find a lot of information.
