Good evening!

I hope you can advise me.
Brief history of my Touran.

- New cylinder head + PDE (positive displacement element) at 25,000 km for Volkswagen.
- Purchased at 100,000 kilometers --> I drive mostly on the highway at 160 km/h (3200 RPM).
- Mileage: 105,000 km. Transmission damage: 5th gear bearing failure -> Transmission rebuilt with a 420Nm Sachs kit including flywheel.
- 135,000 km, turbo with variable geometry turbine (VTG), hot side clamp --> New OST Stage 1 GT1749VA turbocharger --> Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) removed.
- Current mileage: 150,000 km.

The following topics are on my mind:
- BEDI Cleaning
- Check the pressure drop element (PDE), and if necessary, overhaul or replace it, including the nozzles, to ensure the PDE is designed for the increased performance.
- Proper synchronization with drive system for optimal torque and minimal strain. No off-the-shelf software used.

What do you think?
Does the engine have sufficient mechanical reserves?
Who does this kind of work in the Berlin-Brandenburg region?

Best regards,
Robert

Hello Robert,

First of all, I find the damage history of this engine to be exceptional, unfortunately in a negative way.

I wouldn't install any chargers that deviate from the standard configuration unless I wrote the software for them myself.

Depending on the type of charger you have installed and its settings (which can be customized, unlike a standard charger), chip tuning might work perfectly or it might not.

Experience shows that relying on "off-the-shelf" software often increases the risk of falling victim to unprofessional or unreliable solutions.

I'll send you a private message shortly.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you very much for the quick response!
Online, you can find a lot of information about the engine, including reports of cracked cylinder heads and faulty turbochargers.
I probably wasn't the only one with these problems icon_sad.gif.
I didn't want to promote the "Turbo" product right now, so I haven't included any information about it.
It's a supercharger with a lighter and more "streamlined" impeller (CNC machined) for better balance, plus a bearing with improved dry-running characteristics.
Installed with the hope of greater stability and durability.

I absolutely do not want to go to anyone who would install software on my car that they downloaded from some obscure corner of the internet.

I sent an email to the recommended address.

Best regards,
Robert.

I think a forum with a karma function is good icon_smile_thumb_up.gif icon_smile_thumb_up.gif icon_smile_thumb_up.gif.

Good evening.

I have now contacted several tuners.

Unfortunately, I did not receive a response in 30% of the cases.
In most other cases, my requirements are usually not addressed or simply ignored.
"They talk about engine-friendly tuning, but after the fifth..."
Email as a recommendation:
"Why don't you go with the Stage 2 option, which boosts power to 190 horsepower? Our customers are always happy with that." (Standard output is 136 horsepower).
"for €759"
Absolutely not allowed! / This is a complete no-go!

Is there anyone in this forum who knows someone whose neighbor has a grandmother and whose grandson is an expert on PD TDI engines?
Or any other recommendations?

I want to get the nozzles and the chip from a single source, someone who is completely knowledgeable about the subject matter.
I can also perform the BEDI cleaning myself using the manual method, although it's much easier and more effective with dry ice.

Have a nice evening!

Thank you, Robert.

Hello again,

Depending on what kind of charger you have installed and its settings (which are likely custom modifications, not a standard configuration), chip tuning can be straightforward or problematic.

"No one wants to take a risk with your car. Especially not for a measly €750 including VAT, of which, after deducting all expenses in Germany, less than half actually remains."
Someone would really have to be crazy to use a flexible shaft tool to dry their hair, risking engine damage and potential collateral damage after modifying it.

Adapting to other PDEs in order to extract this tooth is nonsense: On the one hand, it's supposed to be "drive-friendly," and then there are even larger PDEs. You yourself don't understand why (unfortunately, observation). None of those who can do that will do it for amounts you would be willing to pay.
Es gibt ja so Leute, die meinen man spielt von der E-Bucht-CD einen Datensatz ein und das macht weniger Arbeit als in der kalten Garage nachzusehen welche Teilenummer und Softwarestand das Steuergerät hat. That's not the case.

You completely underestimate the effort involved in adapting to different PD units/nozzles. This isn't something that can be done by someone with a quick "eBay flasher" course; it requires a) experience and training (typically an engineering degree or equivalent, along with relevant professional experience), b) the technical capabilities of such an application (not every tuner has this capability, as it is expensive and relies on a), and c) a significant amount of paid working time to do it properly.
What you want is usually done by application engineers at the factory, in a process that is both time-consuming and costly.

Proper synchronization with drive-friendly torque achieved. No off-the-shelf software.

Who should evaluate the finished "work"? You? According to what criteria do you think that the value 0x1f0 at position 7/5 in the data field is justified or not, given the context of 0xaef44b? icon_rolleyes.gif Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Make your car roadworthy in its original condition (whether it has a turbocharger, PD elements, etc.) and ask for a normal performance increase, one that is proven to work well. That's the way that promises success.

Best regards, Rainer.
