Hello,
I replaced the stabilizer bar links on a Volkswagen Golf 4. During the installation, I was shocked to discover that the (horizontal) screw of the front bearing was stripping when tightened!
Is there a way to fix this? Alternatively, how should I imagine the mother (presumably referring to a component) in the axle carrier? Is it welded in place, or is it "loosely mounted" to allow for some adjustability?
Best regards.

Oh no!
I've been through something similar myself, with my Corrado many years ago. I can't remember all the details, but back then I had to cut open the engine mount, the nut was welded on. I installed a new one and then closed it up again, trying to make it as invisible as possible. It worked before, but I felt a bit uncomfortable about it.
Today, many years later, the legal situation regarding liability claims, insurance, etc., is completely different, especially if the car is ever sold, and the next vehicle inspection reveals it – that can cause a lot of trouble. Or, you might have had a disagreement with the vehicle owner, and the next workshop discovers it and makes a fuss. Experienced it all firsthand.
Here's a tip: install a new or used motor mount. It's not your fault, and all you really have to do is remove and replace the bolt. And it definitely needs to be tightened properly. While tinkering with a vehicle might sometimes benefit the owner, it could also backfire and cause problems for you.
From my own experience, especially with situations like these: "If you don't do anything bad to anyone, then nothing bad will happen to you." Grüße, Steffen!

Right, I'm not comfortable with that.
I'm going to fiddle around a bit more, hoping to locate the mother or maneuver her into position through a small hole that's already there.
Best regards,

Okay, it's done!
With a lot of patience, I managed to remove this stuck motherboard using a magnet and then positioned it correctly using a wire loop.
When putting it on, I prayed that it wouldn't spin around (there's no way to hold it back).
Luckily, it didn't get stuck and immediately "bit" .
