I found this information, but it doesn't apply to my situation. What is the MFA button if you have a rocker switch with up/down controls and a reset button?
I have a Golf IV manufactured in 2000.
Regards,
Benjamin.

Hello,
To my knowledge, that was the MFA (multifunction display) of the Golf III. I'm familiar with it from the VR6 models. Tschüss

So, does that not exist in the Golf IV?
I've also read about hidden menus on Golf IV forums, so I'm a bit surprised...

Benjamin.

This only works on older VW models with MFA (Multi-Function Display), including the Golf I Cabrio, Golf II, Golf III, Passats from model 35i to 3b, and probably also the Corrado. However, it definitely doesn't work with this trick on any newer models.

Can the 35i not display the oil temperature by default, or is that only possible after unlocking it? Are the displays then activated by default, or do they disappear again after the next restart (ignition)?
Best regards, WarLord.

Greetings, WarLord | .
Hi,
It can display the oil temperature as a standard feature.
In check mode, my display shows the oil temperature, current power consumption, and outside temperature (which is permanently -40°C because the temperature sensor is connected to the control unit).
The displays will return to normal after the next restart.
Best regards,
Munch.

Is the temperature sensor not normally split between the Climatronic and the MFA? Doesn't the MFA also normally display the outside temperature (which would make sense)? So, to avoid any more questions like that, I'll just ask the following question: What does the MFA display by default on a Passat 35i 3A5 (facelift), and what needs to be activated (and therefore disappears after the next restart)?
Best regards, WarLord.

Okay, to avoid any more questions like that, I'll simply ask the following: What information does the MFA (Multi-Function Display) typically show on a Passat 35i 3A5 (facelift model), and what information needs to be activated (and therefore disappears after the next restart)?
Greetings, WarLord | .
Hi,
1: Apparently not.
Regarding point 2: If you don't have Climatronic, the outside temperature is displayed on the corresponding screen. With Climatronic, the outside temperature is also displayed on its own screen.
ad3: Standard: Time - Travel time - Average fuel consumption - Average speed - Distance traveled - Oil temperature.
Check mode: see my previous post.
Best regards & good night.
Munch.

Regarding point 3:
...bla...bla - Outside temperature.
By the way, the trick with the hidden MFA menus also works with the digital mileage counters in Golf 3 and similar models. In this case, you need to hold down the reset button.

Do you have the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and the outside temperature display in the multi-function display (MFA)?

Okay, then the fuel gauge damping is also gone (I haven't checked yet whether the temperature gauge damping is also gone).
Best regards,
Munch.

Oh, I see... No, mine doesn't even have manual air conditioning.
Right, then the damping of the fuel gauge is also gone (I haven't checked yet whether the temperature gauge is also affected).
Best regards,
Mampf
I, in turn, didn't know that. Mine, however, also doesn't have a temperature dampening feature...

Is the fuel gauge reading inaccurate? By the way, does this work with the mileage counter (i.e., the combination instrument without a Multifunction Display) in the Passat as well?
Best regards, WarLord.

Greetings, WarLord | .
Hi,
By "dampening of the fuel gauge," I meant the fact that, during normal driving, movements in the fuel volume are not visible on the gauge because it is very slow to respond. If the instrument cluster is in check mode, the fuel gauge needle moves up and down with each braking/acceleration event, or when going uphill/downhill.
As far as I know, the mileage counter check mode works on all G3&35i keypads that have an electronic odometer.
Best regards,
Munch.

Yes, it works, I can confirm. So, press and hold the button, turn the ignition on, turn the ignition off, turn the ignition on, start the engine, and then release the button. After that, you can use the button to navigate through the menu.
By the way, this works on all VAG vehicles that have a Golf III-like instrument cluster, including the T4 (with the corresponding year of manufacture), Polo 6N, Vento, Caddy, etc.
