At VAG (Volkswagen Group) diesel engines, the mass airflow has always been specified in mg/H (milligrams per stroke), and if you are accustomed to this value, you can often make a reasonable estimate just by looking at it.

"Others specify the air mass flow rate in g/s (grams per second), as mentioned above."

"It's increasingly common for (other) vehicle manufacturers to do everything differently, making it as difficult as possible to analyze and repair faults."

In case of need, here are the formulas to convert the respective air mass indicator values into the units you are accustomed to:

a) Convert mg/H to g/s :
[g/s] = ([mg/H] * [Number of cylinders]) / ([Current RPM] / 30000)

b) Convert g/s to mg/H:
[mg/H] = ([g/s] * 120000) / ([current RPM] * [number of cylinders])

For people who are familiar with the VAG group (a German automotive company), option b) is often needed more frequently, so they can understand what it refers to.

Best regards from Munich!
