Hello.
Does the ABS unit bleeding process on a Golf 3 work the same way as described in the 'Troubleshooting/Solutions' section for the MK20 IE?
Are there any more detailed information available about this?
Thank you!

Hello,
Which ABS control unit do you have?
The Volkswagen Golf 3 could also have been equipped with a Mark 4 ABS system from ITT, or later a Mark 04 system from Teves.
If you open the ABS control unit, you will see the version number. Tschüss

I have an ABS unit from a 1995 Golf 3 installed. I believe it's already a MK20 model. The control unit is located directly on the hydraulic unit, not under the seat or elsewhere. I don't know the part number right now, but I can check it tomorrow.

I checked. The control unit has the number 3A0 907 379 and the designation ABS ITT AE 20 GI 00. Can or must I bleed the system via the diagnostic interface?
Thank you.

Hello,
As described, this process bleeds the hydraulic unit. This is not the same as bleeding the brake pistons or the hydraulic lines. Bleeding the hydraulic unit is necessary when air has entered it due to a low fluid level.
As far as I know, the bleeding process for the hydraulic unit should work the same way in your system. Tschüss

Okay, so, I just tested the automatic bleeding function. I selected the ABS controller in VAG-COM and entered the login code 40168. It didn't seem to do anything at first. Then I selected 'Basic settings' and started 001. It then said to press and hold the brake pedal. The pedal sank all the way to the floor, and shortly after, the pump pushed the pedal back up. Then it displayed: 'Bleeder screws VR/VL OPEN'. When selecting 002, the brake pedal is supposed to be pressed 10 times, with the bleeder screws closed. With 003, everything repeats as with 001.
I'm not sure now whether the login worked correctly, or whether the basic settings also function without this login.
Has anyone ever performed the bleeding procedure for the MK20 IE using VAG-COM? Does the process look the same as described above?

Hello,
The login code enables the basic configuration to channel 01.
I once performed that procedure on a Mark 60. It looked exactly the same... Tschüss
