hello,

a friend (car mechanic)
He told me that after every timing belt replacement, the water pump should also be replaced at the same time because there have been problems with it in the past. Is that really necessary?
Do you always exchange them for the same thing?

Hello,

'Well, if the water pump is replaced at all, it's done together with the timing belt, not afterwards. It makes sense to replace the water pump at the same time because if it fails, the timing belt also needs to be replaced, which can result in very high repair costs, especially with VAG vehicles. In this regard, I have to commend Opel; they replace the timing belt on a Opel Corsa with a 1.2-liter engine for just 160 euros!'

Hello,

Quote:
It simply makes sense to replace the water pump at the same time because if it fails, the timing belt
also needs to be replaced.

"...but this is not the case for the 1Z and AFN engines. In those engines, the timing belt only drives the oil pump, crankshaft, and ESP (electric steering pump)."
You can therefore avoid the hassle of changing providers.

Best regards,
Albrecht.

I agree with my predecessor! And if she has one, you can easily replace it without the timing belt.

Wow, I've stirred up quite a discussion! However, the statement made by the car mechanic is indeed correct for engines where the water pump is driven by the timing belt.

Well, I certainly stirred things up! However, the statement made by the automotive mechanic is actually correct for engines where the water pump is driven by the timing belt.

yes and no!

I don't think a water pump only lasts 90,000 km! The one in my 1Z engine has survived two timing belt changes! Of course, it's not a guarantee! And if it fails between two timing belt changes, that's annoying. But, as I said, it *can* happen, but it doesn't *have* to.
or do you get a new leg if you break your foot? However, from a purely precautionary perspective and considering the potential for earning money, the statement is certainly true!

Hello,

I think that the relatively low price for a new weapon is not proportional.
Regarding the subsequent costs, these are caused by a stuck valve. For my part, I would always choose to replace it.

In diesem Punkt muss ich Opel mal loben, den ZR bei einem Opel Corsa mit 1,2 Liter RasenmĂ€hermotor wechseln die fĂŒr 160 Euro!

Let's talk about changing the timing belt on a 1.6D engine... or maybe on a 16V engine.

'I think I paid around 80 or 120 euros for the exchange of the 1Z [component]. Changing the timing belt on a 1Z took me just over 4 hours as a beginner! And what's the problem with that?!'

But, just to be on the safe side, it's okay to change it! (If you have the money for it, of course!)
