Touran door lock

Hello,
how do the door locks work in the VW Touran? Can I only open the door with the key, or does the door lock also communicate with the transponder in the key?
What happens then with a discharged vehicle battery?

The door lock can be opened normally with the key, both with a discharged battery in the key and with a completely empty vehicle battery.
