Hi.

I have a different counter-argument --> http://goo.gl/OLs1j
It is held with a 3/4" tool and extension.

There are also different versions of the vibration damper. I removed the old one (VERY OLD) with an impact wrench, and unfortunately, I didn't try to see if the replacement fit properly.
It fits perfectly with the new version --> http://goo.gl/kWWBq.

The tightening torque for the central bolt, according to Volvo documentation, is 160 Nm, followed by an additional rotation of 180 degrees.
Under no circumstances should anything be lubricated there (quote from Volvo service documentation)!
The torque is just enough to hold the object in place with two supports; anything more would likely cause the car to fall off the lift. icon_wink.gif

"160nm + 180° definitely works – I almost feel like I'm the first one to do it this way on my car. I've observed it twice now – they just use a large impact wrench to tighten them, and it holds; job done..."

After replacing the timing belt, I noticed some noises coming from the cover; either it was slightly bent during installation, or the new parts are just a little different.

Regards,

"P.S.: According to the service documents, I had pre-tensioned the belt by 2mm. However, when viewed from above, that 2mm translated to 4mm. Unfortunately, the noise was also annoying – the belt was too tightly tensioned. When I loosened the tensioner again and minimized the pre-tension, it significantly affected the pump adjustment. Those few millimeters were quite surprising."

Hello everyone,

Just for your information: Today, I performed the next timing belt replacement on that vehicle. The central bolt, tightened to 225 degrees instead of 270 degrees, lasted without any problems for 120,000 kilometers.

And this time again, the originally correctly tensioned roller was over-tensioned by 2mm after warming up (and setting the start of feeding). So it seems to be normal. Therefore, I won't adjust it this time unless it becomes significantly under-tensioned. This time, I tightened it with 35 Nm.

By the way, the needle lifter error never reappeared within the 120,000 km since the last timing belt replacement. It seems it was really caused by the fact that the fuel injection start timing was set too early by a whole cylinder before.

And your suggestion to set the start of the boost based on the beginning of the first pressure peak of the ESP after OT worked perfectly and was a huge improvement compared to using a pressure gauge.

Best regards,
Michael.
