Okay, you definitely need the EDIABAS program with the INPA tools to read the error memory and Tools32 to reset the short circuit counter. The error memory can only be cleared after a successful reset. Also, the fault/short circuit should already be fixed

Within the BMW community, many users of EDIABAS software offer their assistance regionally, so you may not necessarily need to obtain the software yourself.
Selecting the correct control unit, which varies depending on the vehicle model, is usually easiest when you read the error memory.
Then, as follows:
- Open Tools32 (C:\EDIABAS\Tools32.exe).
- F3
- FRM_87.prg (for FRM1) or
- Open the file "FRM_70.prg" (for FRM2/FRM3).
- Execute job "STATUS_LAMPEN_KURZSCHLUSS_COUNTER" by double-clicking it.
- In the results window, find the value that is 50 (this should represent the lamps that are no longer working).
- Job "_RESET_KURZSCHLUSS_SPERRE" (FRM_87.prg = FRM1)
- Job "TAXES_RESET_SHORT_CIRCUIT_SHUTDOWN" (FRM_70.prg = FRM2/3)
Search and specify the lamp number as an argument, indicating which counter should be reset (the corresponding lamp number can be found in the "LampNrTexte" table).
Exit the control unit menu, turn off the ignition, wait briefly, then turn the ignition back on – you're done.
Note: If you find nothing wrong with the wiring and taillight, the light switch is usually the most likely culprit for a short circuit.
