... now for VAG-COM...

Leistungsmessung mit VAG-COM

Finally, easily, quickly, and affordably check tuning modifications!
Is your friend's car performing better? Do a performance comparison!

-> You can also find a direct download link in the last post of this thread.
Full integration as a plugin is planned for one of the next VAG-COM versions.
That means you don't have to read in logged measurement files, but instead you will be told what to do (accelerate, coast, etc.). icon_smile.gif

Hi Rainer,

Is the integrated DRZ (Diesel Retrograde Zone) used, or is it calculated based on the amount of injected diesel fuel, etc.?

Definitely a great idea!

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

When it's finished, it will be a kind of diagnostic tool that works as a VAG-COM plugin.

icon_smile.gif

However, it will still take some time, as I need to continue working on the excellent foundation that was not created by me.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer,

Could you possibly reveal a little more information?

On what basis is this power and torque measurement performed? What sensor data is read during the process?

/Speculation mode on

The diagram shows the instantaneous acceleration of the vehicle. I imagine that simply reading the engine speed and instantaneous velocity (from 2 control units simultaneously! Is that possible?) would be enough to generate the torque and power curves.
The acceleration can be calculated by deriving the instantaneous speed. The ratio of engine speed to vehicle speed provides information about the overall gear ratio. Now, all that's needed is the mass of the vehicle to calculate torque and power.

/speculation mode on

Am I on the right track?

Regards,
Alex.

Hello Alex,

Yes, that's how it's being done currently. To ensure the curve calculation has a more reasonable and, above all, vehicle- and driver-independent basis, I am currently working on an "intelligent" data processing method.
The quality of the calculated curves depends entirely on the quality of the input measurement values.

The plan is to run the program as a VAG-COM plugin.
"In other words, you click a 'Start' button and then receive instructions such as 'Please accelerate the vehicle,' 'Press the clutch and let it coast,' etc. The measurement block selection and data preparation should happen automatically, so that a printable power and torque curve is generated directly."

Best regards, Rainer.

Wow, so a virtual test bench for on the go icon_eek.gif icon_biggrin.gif.

If this runs stably and is included in your VAGCOM version, I might be tempted to retire my old version (which has been sufficient for my needs so far and runs reliably) along with the opto-adapter.

What is the actual galvanic connection between the car and Lappi in your USB professional adapter?

"0.0 Ohms, which means I'm creating a low-resistance ground loop when powering the laptop from the bottom panel, and in the worst case, I could fry a power trace leading to the USB port on the motherboard?"
My Elitegroup laptop doesn't have an internal battery...

0.6 Ohms or 1.1 Ohms... however, so far there has been nothing grilled icon_cool.gif.
What is the voltage difference between your power cable and the ground connection of the laptop's connectors?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Ulf,

Two generally applicable and reliable solutions come to mind... I'll probably test option 1 for my battery-less (because the battery is broken) laptop soon.

Here's the translation:

"Take a 12V lead-acid battery (lead-gel if it needs to be compliant) and connect your laptop to it. When fully charged, this should provide more than enough power, and it doesn't have to be large or expensive – for example, I bought a 12V 12Ah lead-gel battery for my UPS from www.pollin.de for just 15 euros, and they work great."

2. is the "noble solution." The intelligent interface shifts the real-time problem to the connection between the microcontroller and the car, so the connection between the microcontroller and the PC is less critical (correct, Rainer?). Therefore, you should be able to build a perfect USB isolator using a simple USB extension cable and two fast optocouplers plus driver modules. If the interface needs the 5 volts from the PC for anything, then add a third optocoupler that switches on only when the PC is providing 5V, which is generated by a 7805 regulator.

"@Rainer: Wouldn't that actually be a good idea for the shop? As the use of smart interfaces becomes more widespread, this problem is becoming increasingly acute, and it would be a nice safety feature for the computer."

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi,

Does the decoupling issue also apply to serial diagnostic adapters (current KKL kit)?
My laptop also needs to be powered from the vehicle's electrical system – the battery has asthma icon_wink.gif.

And which versions of VAG-Com will the plugin be compatible with?

Roger

Hi Jan, Roger,

Option 2 is certainly possible, but it is not currently planned.

The performance measurement program will definitely be able to process log files from the current versions of VAG-COM.
It will not work with older versions of VAG-COM because it requires certain features that the current plugin interface does not provide.

Best regards, Rainer.

Have I understood correctly that using a laptop powered directly from the building's electrical system is problematic?

My electric scooter also has a defective battery, which is why I generally have to connect it to the car's adapter for power.

So far, it's basically working - Was should I have been careful about?
(I own this serial hobby interface because my laptop still has a serial port.)

Best regards,
Herwig.

Regarding the whole food/feedback story, here's what you need to know:

There are several thousand users worldwide with a current USB interface, and to my knowledge, none of them have reported the problems you are discussing here.

For example, I use a HEX-USB+CAN device connected to a Siemens Lifebook (B-series), powered either by an external power supply (car battery) or directly from the laptop's battery.

No problems at all, not even in the slightest.

Hello Uwe,

How can I identify a reliable car adapter before buying it?
Is something like this adapter [Ebay link] unsuitable?

The topic of mass continues...
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate into English. Just paste it here, and I will give you the translation.

Hello Rainer!

Is this a VAG-COM plugin or a standalone offline tool?
From which version can KPower be used?

Alex.
