I have a Touareg here where I replaced the crankshaft position sensor because it was faulty.
I took it for a longer test drive. The first 40 kilometers, it ran normally, but then, when accelerating, there was suddenly a loss of power and a lot of smoke. I initially thought it was the turbocharger. I checked the oil, which was okay. Then I drove it again with VCDS. The engine load drops, and then it smokes heavily again, jerks, and misfires. I tried this a few times, and after the test drive, the entire engine compartment was full of oil because the oil dipstick had been pushed out. I checked the oil again, and now I'm sure there are at least 20 liters in the engine; the oil level is 6-7 centimeters above the mark. The car runs normally at idle and during normal driving, but the problem with misfiring and smoking occurs when I accelerate for a longer period.
Now I don't know where all the diesel in the engine oil is coming from: either the PD-O-rings (would it then run normally?), a leaky PD element (would it then run normally?), or the tandem pump.
The car also has a tuning module connected to the PD cable harness. Perhaps it's adding too much power?
Okay, tomorrow I'm going to drain the oil and disable the tuning box, and then drive it again. If that doesn't fix it, I don't know where to start – maybe it's the injectors or the tandem pump. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hi.
Sure, here's the translation:
"At"
Quote: | | PD elements or tandem pump |
I would start by asking: Are all the PD elements securely connected to the ZK?
Best regards, Rainer.

I've installed the PD-O-rings and also added wedges to the PD elements https://www.pdekeile.com/). (Rainer, please delete this if you don't want the link).
Now I just need to take it for a thorough test drive and see if the oil level increases.

Hello,
If it starts normally after a longer period of inactivity, I would be more inclined to suspect the tandem pump.
I find it more likely that a faulty TP (throttle position sensor) is the cause, especially one that leaks internally, than a faulty PDE (pressure drop element) or normal starting without excessive idling.
What make, model, and year is the car, and what type of oil do you use?
Best regards.
Manfred.

MKB: BAC
216,000 km
Oil 505.01
It starts with the first push, which is why I was skeptical that the problem was the O-rings. I was more inclined to think it was the tandem pump.
Then I found more and more posts that pointed to PD rings.
After the initial test drive, I couldn't detect any increase.

Hello,
At least the oil is wrong now!
LL3 would be the correct part! (…for the factory-fitted DPF version!)
It could also be related to an incomplete DPF regeneration or the beginning of overfilling (since the 505 oil has significantly more additives and likely produces more ash).
Here are the DPF values to read out. Unfortunately, the DPF is prone to failure in the R5 models, and it could be related to the mileage.

The oil is the right type, and it doesn't contain any DPF additives.
For the R5 or V10 models produced up to 2007, use either oil type 506.01 or 505.01. Using oil type 507.00 may cause damage to the crankshaft.
My 505.01 would also have been approved for use with C3 (DPF) filters.

You're right, they changed everything again, just like they always do.
R5 with BAC is EU3 / V10 with BLE, which was already EU4... nobody remembers it anymore, including the workshop.
In this case, I would install a new TP (presumably referring to a thermostat or temperature probe).
"In my Golf, this component failed at approximately 310,000 kilometers, exhibiting the same symptoms."
Have a nice weekend.
