Hello, I really need some advice; I'm at my wit's end and don't know what to do anymore.
What was done?
Engine rebuilt:
New parts: Engine block, cylinder head, pistons, piston rings, balance shaft module with oil pump, crankshaft position sensors (CKP), turbocharger (original from the manufacturer), valves, hydraulic lifters, camshaft, oil filter housing, water pump, complete timing belt set.
I removed the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger, and at idle, the engine was running at 3000 RPM. The turbo isn't pushing any oil; everything is dry. I reattached the exhaust pipe, took it for a test drive, accelerating slowly, and everything seemed fine. Then, when accelerating uphill, there was smoke. However, after I parked and revved the engine in neutral, there was no more smoke.
I'm stuck and don't know what to do next. I still need to run a diagnostic test on the actuator and perform an auto-scan, but I haven't had time to get to it yet.

I read that it might be coming from the residual oil in the exhaust system, could that be possible?

Oil in the exhaust system will cause smoke for many miles.
BUT: What was the original problem?
Wasn't it a hexagonal oil pump shaft? So, no oil being pumped, and therefore the engine is broken? In that case, there shouldn't be any oil in the exhaust...

Well, if you ask me, it could be caused by many different things. If oil has leaked into your exhaust system, that might be the reason.
Otherwise, it might be helpful to share the suspicious measurement values with everyone here.

Hi everyone, so the oil was getting into the exhaust system through the turbocharger, for exactly the reasons that you all mentioned (installing a completely rebuilt turbo). That's why I bought and installed a brand new, genuine turbocharger. Now, there's no more oil leaking out, except when I'm driving uphill where a lot of power is needed.
There are opinions that it could be coming from residual oil in the exhaust system, but the measurements show the following:
I have now read out the measurement data blocks.
I took it for another short test drive, under load, starting from a standstill with full power; there was some slight smoke, and it felt like it had a lot of power.
According to the measurement results, there seems to be an issue with the air mass; it appears to be too high at idle, but I'm not entirely sure.
The exhaust gas recirculation occasionally showed normal values as well.
001031 - Potentiometer for exhaust gas recirculation (G212).
P0407 - 000 - Signal too low - Intermittent.
I happened to have a new mass airflow sensor (MAF) lying around, but unfortunately, it's just an aftermarket part from the internet – not an original Bosch part. I'm only using it to see if it makes any difference.
All values are still using the old LMM (Likelihood-Maximization Method).
The Autoscan will be followed up on.

Hello,
Where did you get the "turbocharger originally from the factory"?
Best regards, Rainer.

Good morning everyone, does anyone have any ideas why my AGR values are fluctuating so extremely? It could also be related to the smoking issue. ????

Maybe I'm just too stupid.
I see a lot of screenshots there. Anything could be possible. How about we try a real log drive instead? Until then, the answer to all your questions is quite simple from my perspective:
"Possibly" or "Maybe"

I removed the EGR valve, cleaned it until it was spotless, and reinstalled it. I then performed the relearn procedure using the five-times ignition off method.
Okay, so it's 5 seconds on, then 40 seconds off, and repeat that sequence 5 times.
The initial values were as expected: Target 250 mg/H - Actual value 250 mg/H, which was great. However, just 15 minutes later, the actual value suddenly jumped to 325 mg/H and couldn't be brought down, even with a basic reset using VCDS.
I'd love to go on a log flume ride, but firstly, my laptop only works when plugged into a power outlet, and secondly, I tend to splash everyone around me until I finally get off the ride.
Unfortunately, things aren't quite how I would like them to be, which is why I'm asking here.
Does this mean the EGR valve is defective?

I had similar problems with a gasoline engine; it was smoking and smelling bad. I installed a new original equipment (OE) EGR valve, calibrated it using VCDS, and the problem was resolved.

A generic (unbranded) AGR valve was installed there, only a few months old from the previous owner, and attempts to adapt it using VCDS always failed.
