I have an Audi A4 8E 2.0 TDI with engine code BRD, manufactured in 2006.
Problem: Engine misfires / stalls intermittently. So far, it has been possible to restart it with varying degrees of difficulty. If it stalls at idle, no error code is stored. If it stalls under load, codes P1260, P1263, and P1266 are present.
The engine wiring harness has been replaced, but there is no change. According to the Audi authorized workshop, the piezo injectors are defective.
"However, I noticed that the error occurs when I move the engine control unit. Next, I disassembled the control unit, and it's true that the engine shuts off when the circuit board is moved. I contacted a repair company, but they couldn't guarantee they could fix the problem with the control unit. Audi can supply a replacement control unit (03G997058GX)."
Okay, here's the translation:
"Now, to my question. Is it possible or necessary to configure this replacement control unit using VCDS and adjust the immobilizer settings? Or are these settings even plug-and-play, like with Fiat? Audi can't answer this question for me."
That's not going to work with plug and play.
It is possible to pair the device using VCDS. However, there's a catch: it only works if you have the PIN code for the immobilizer. If you're using a new control unit, you only need the PIN code from the car. If you're using a used control unit, you need both PIN codes: the PIN code from the used control unit that you're installing, and the PIN code from the car.
You cannot read these codes with VCDS, and Audi cannot tell you what they are. You need different equipment to read these codes.
If you're buying the part from Audi anyway, then have it installed and programmed there directly. That's probably the easiest solution.

The problem with your type of control unit is that more or less force and heat need to be applied to open the housing.
It doesn't make things any better.
I can't recall any instances of soldering defects on circuit boards. Instead, in multilayer circuit boards, faulty vias or layer separations are not uncommon.
You can't repair anything there (and neither can most other people, in a way that makes economic sense).
If it were my car, I would: Depending on the year of manufacture, I would either obtain a suitable engine control unit (ECU) as recommended by a chip tuner and have the WFS (Warm Function Start) deactivated, or I would clone the existing ECU.
I once bought an original control unit from a reputable auction house "for testing purposes," and the immobilizer was deactivated. It came from Poland and worked perfectly as a plug-and-play solution. I paid about 100 CHF for it. Simply enter the part number of your control unit on eBay. I estimate the chance that the car will be stolen due to the missing immobilizer is rather low .

I had a good experience with Tachopix in Hanover.
Typically, we provide a cost estimate after inspecting the control unit. Then you can decide whether it's worth it and feasible.
Since the company is located 40km away, I drove there with my control unit (after making an appointment). The Espace is known to have problems with certain chips. After the diagnosis, I was told that the chip was okay. So, it wasn't repaired unnecessarily. The problem was actually with my display, which was then fixed a few weeks later.
