Unfortunately, after 23 years, gravity has also taken its toll on our roof. Are there any smart repair options available to fix it? I actually wanted to avoid having to dismantle it and have it reupholstered by a saddler.

Perhaps it's best to look for a used one in good condition. For cars like the Polo 6N, you might still be able to find something like that for a relatively low price.

I only paid 50 euros for my old Touareg, but finding a similar premium car with electronic issues, a cracked dashboard, and a sagging headliner is much more difficult.

I even have one still in the basement. However, I don't want to have to deal with that issue again anytime soon, because the material is also deteriorating on this one. Then it's better to do it right once.

That really hurts me deeply. You invest time and money, but in the end, you're not satisfied with the result.
It's probably not going to be easy to create a "sky" that produces the desired result.

Hi,
The molded part must be evenly and thinly coated with adhesive. For DIY projects, you can get decent results with a brush (which is how I did it). For a professional finish, use a spray gun like in the blog post linked above.
The adhesive must be allowed to air dry (finger test) so that it adheres to the fabric without soaking through it. Therefore, it doesn't make sense to treat the fabric itself with glue.
Spray adhesive from a can is unusable.
