'On my Audi A4 AFN, manufactured in June 1997, with almost 120,000 km (approximately 75,000 miles), I've been experiencing black smoke coming out of the exhaust when accelerating for some time now.'
After a cold start, a cloud of black smoke always comes out of the exhaust when starting to drive, and it's visible in the rearview mirror. After about 3 minutes of driving, the smoke is only visible when someone is driving behind you.

- No error codes stored.
- Oil consumption is normal.
- Fuel: Aral or DEA.
- All parts on the engine have never been replaced.
- No chip tuning.
- Power output and top speed remain unchanged.
- Will be moved over medium or long distances.
- Coolant should be verschandeln and there should be no loss.

Given the mileage, the fuel injectors can probably be ruled out. What could be the problem here?

Thank you very much.
Regards,
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Use the search function and look for AGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry). It sounds like there's a defect in this area, and these issues have been discussed multiple times here. Good luck icon_wink.gif.

Air filters and fuel filters as well? That's the first place you should check!
