I drive a 1996 Golf TDI with 90 horsepower.
He has that small engine cover.
Okay, I just bought a used, large cover for the 110 hp TDI.
and I want to install it naturally, but how?
I have all the small bits and pieces, like screws, etc.
The cover is secured with three screws, but I only have one.
use the two front mounting holes, the two front mounting holes will be exposed.
Is there still a mounting bracket or something like that? icon_question.gif

That's exactly what I just did.

I only have this one picture available right now.

You probably don't have ALL the parts yet, because you still need 2 brackets: one to replace this crane hook (you'll have to bend it severely, as only the G4 version is available, and the timing belt gets in the way on the G3), and another that goes around the water outlet to the radiator.

I can provide more pictures if needed.

Just a heads-up: The AFN cover will grind away the 1Z diesel fuel lines (see picture 1092) if you don't put something underneath it, or if you install the AFN lines themselves!

Okay, here are the pictures. But be careful, they are a full 2 megapixels!!

Part numbers for the two brackets and some text explaining how to do it will follow...

Okay, here's a quick guide on what you need to install an AFN cover on a 1Z engine.

- Oil seal adapter
- Seal around the adapter.

- Replacement for the existing crane hook on the right side.
- Additional bracket on the front left water inlet.
- Threaded bolt (to be self-made) for the intake manifold.

Most of the fiddling is caused by the crane hook. Even removing the existing one is difficult. To do this, loosen the timing belt cover on the cylinder head (small SW 10 screw) and then loosen the SW13 screw on the hook, which is mounted from the timing belt side. Remove the hook. The new one must first be bent into shape: it has a total of 3 "wings" as supports, but only the one facing the ESP is needed. The others are specific to the Golf 4 and hit the G3 timing belt cover. Therefore, I simply bent them flat with a vise (it was Sunday, and I didn't want to use a cutting tool icon_wink.gif).
Screw on the adjusted hinge, but only in extremely small increments, like 1/6 of a turn at a time!!!

The other bracket at the front is much easier to install. Simply loosen the two screws of the water connection and re-tighten them with the bracket.

For the third stop, you need to remove the screw that holds the turbo pressure pipe and replace it with a threaded rod. I happened to have one left over from the valve cover of a T3 bus TurboDiesel. icon_smile.gif
Screw in the threaded rod and tighten the pressure pipe with a regular nut.

Now, it is absolutely necessary to lower the return line (which already shows signs of damage from the small cover). To do this, loosen the screw on the ESP, lower the right-angled outlet, and then tighten the screw again.

Now, just put the cover on... and we're done!

Have fun!
martin

Thank you very much for the quick response!
I've provided a prompt and detailed response.
Not expected, but the images are very helpful.
Thank you very much for your efforts with the...
Images!
Part numbers for the grommets would be helpful.
My VW dealer is a bit difficult to understand.

Regards,
Hoti.

Okay, please provide the German text you want me to translate. I will provide only the English translation.

028 115 301 Oelstutzen 2.80
021 133 287 A Sealing ring, €2.95

They are assembled like this:
http://www.luxus-wg.de/~martin/auto_bilder/afn_deckel/DSC00768.JPG

028 103 945 A Bracket, 5.30 (should be the one on the left, near the water inlet).
038 103 941 E Holder 8.50 (the G4, which you have to bend).

Die Preise sind EUR zzgl. VAT!

It's a shame that the G4 mount is the most expensive, and you don't need half of it.
