Hello everyone!

I drive a Passat TDI Variant, manufactured in November 1997.

Exactly one year ago, the tie rod ends were replaced at ATU.
to be exchanged.
Unlike VW, ATU offered a 2-year warranty on the cylinder heads.

In January, the car failed the technical inspection.
Both heads are broken again! icon_sad.gif
ATU has, of course, replaced the heads and the repair costs.
taken over.
Early May, the tie rod end on the driver's side failed again.
defective! (After approximately 5000 kilometers since the last replacement!)
According to the ATU master, the right side of the head was still okay.

3 days later, I already felt like both heads were gone. icon_redface.gif
To be on the safe side, I initially just observed the situation.
I don't have a lift, but if the steering wheel is in the...
The movement back and forth is causing a feeling of strain on the heads again. (Just like with every previous defect.)

I'm starting to feel really stressed out now! Is this not normal...?
Has anyone else had the same experience with the ATU tie rod ends?

The car has 235/40 LM alloy wheels. I don't think that's the problem. Otherwise, the vehicle is driven normally. (No off-road icon_biggrin.gif).

I hope to get some advice from you.

Best regards, Gerd.

Let's adjust the tracking and camber! Let's also balance the wheels and, ideally, get a complete suspension alignment.
Unfortunately, I don't have much else to add, but it might be a vehicle that was involved in an accident. You could try calling Volkswagen and providing the chassis number to see if there are any records of any major options or features that were ordered.
