Hello Ingo,
Okay, first of all, let me explain: I also have a K&N filter, but not for the sake of increased performance or reduced fuel consumption, but for financial reasons. I live in a rural area and drive about 45 kilometers to work and back every day, all through fields, forests, and meadows (so hardly any towns). Unfortunately, my route also takes me past a cement plant, and that's why I sometimes have to replace the air filter every month (especially in the summer). I've even had to remove a "concrete filter" from my car before. So, my decision to choose a washable fabric filter was understandable in that context.
I didn't notice any increase in performance, and the fuel savings were minimal (0.3 liters). However, when towing my 1000kg trailer, I achieve surprisingly low fuel consumption figures (7.0 - 8.0 liters per 100km). Unfortunately, I don't have any comparisons to other cars in that situation.
By the way, my father uses these filters in his 90 horsepower gasoline-powered Golf (engine code: ABS), my wife uses them in her 50 horsepower Lupo (engine code: ALL, chipped to 65 horsepower), and I use them in my rally-spec Jetta (engine code: DX). I also have experience with these filters in two other cars I used to own. However, the difference between textile and paper filters is most noticeable in the Jetta!!! Gruß Bertil
