Hi there,
According to general opinion, a driving license (Führerschein) seems to be situated somewhere between a desire and an absolute necessity.
So far, so bad...
The playful instinct is also present in me, and small indicators or LED chains that cheerfully react when you accelerate also have something .
Okay, here's the translation:
'Now I have the following problem: Where should I install the LDA?'
I'm a fan of old analog displays (does anyone remember the Fiat-Alis wheel loader from the early 80s? Or the old MAN truck with the hood? Those were amazing dashboards...).
'But where am I supposed to install this thing? I'm not a fan of mounting it on the superstructure, and the center console needs to remain clear (besides, it wouldn't make sense there anyway, as it wouldn't be visible during the drive). The option of mounting it to the A-pillar isn't really ideal either.'
The alternative of building the whole thing into the station wagon (in the style of Ulf) is not feasible due to space constraints. There simply isn't enough space in the station wagon of the G4/Octavia.
Okay, so the next idea is to somehow integrate the whole thing into the car's trunk using an LED bar graph.
Ideally, it would be best to use the existing dot matrix printer, as it is capable of producing graphics.
That's such bullshit...
Or does anyone already have the ultimate idea?
CU Gremlin.

Hi Gremlin,
Has it caught you too?
What's wrong with the option of placing "VOR" before the "Kombi," as Ulf did in the Ibi project, and as I then recreated digitally?
Or, disassemble the dashboard and install the LEDs behind the markings from 5000-6000 on the tachometer, following the curve of the instrument so nicely .

hi ralf.
Okay, I'm probably going to mount my GLCD on the A-pillar, towards the windshield. That way, I'll have a good view of it, and the cables will be hidden.

 send pix...
The space in front of the van is limited. I've already considered building it so that it fits within the frame of the van... but then the visibility would be terrible.
It seems it will probably end up in the IM combination after all...

Hi Gremlin,
It has even become a specialized article, but in exactly the same form, it also appears on my website.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

Putting an LED display in there probably won't look very good either...
You can find it at HGP-Turbo.de.

@jan
I don't even want to start talking about optics .
'However, the method is completely unusable because my cockpit looks like the one Julian posted. Therefore, I'm blocking my view of the dot matrix.'

btw: look for schematic diagram software *hides*
@julian
the display or whatever it's showing?
It's just another digital display, and in my opinion, it's not useful for displaying values like boost pressure, etc.
/dream on/
Okay, here's the translation:
'Hmm... you could digitize the fuel gauge and integrate it into the dot matrix display, and use the fuel gauge as an LDA (likely referring to a Light Dependent Resistor or similar sensor).'
/dream off/

Hi Gremlin,
Regarding the appearance: Mine isn't finished yet; it's still missing a cover (I just haven't gotten around to it; right now, I need to deal with the burnt-out motor in our kitchen range hood).
"Why don't you replace the red stripes in the red area with a string of LED lights?"
Or place the element horizontally below the display.
The idea of using a fuel gauge might actually work if you can eliminate the inertia. The way to do it is to bypass the fuel sensor and connect a digital device, feeding it the values from the pressure gauge. In other words, you modify the sensors, not the instrument itself. The only problem is the inertia.

@julian
what the display shows, or whatever it's displaying.
Ach, wofür 680PS gut sein können weiß hier wohl jeder. Mir gings lediglich um die schöne digitale Einarbeitung des Ladedrucks im Drehzahlmesser. Das It looks really good.
It can also be integrated into The Matrix, but I don't think that's a good idea.
'Ask HGP about it; they probably customize speedometers. I think the readability while driving is best here, besides the column-mounted option.'
by the way
If you want a speedometer with a  'gay' LCD display, I recommend speedometers from Ford/Volvo... but they don't actually show anything either. }

Hey Gremlin, looks like you need to refuel!
I also did some searching today because I can't stop thinking about a nice LDA (likely referring to a specific type of product or item).
The entire combination instrument seems unsuitable as an installation location, as you're likely to damage more than you fix.
I would like the "Analog" option, but I'm afraid it's likely to fail. However, I'd also like to hear other suggestions.

I was simply referring to the beautiful digital integration of the boost pressure display in the tachometer. It looks really great.
'Only in my dashboard cluster are the lamps for the main light, side marker light, and parking light, as well as the filaments...'
@jan
with the fuel gauge, this won't work, because it calculates the distorted characteristic curve of the sensor, and every time there is no charging pressure, the 'please refuel' light will come on .

Sure, we'll definitely find a spot for the ad in your awesome car.

Hello!
I also have another idea for the installation.
I was thinking something along the lines of what BMW does, where they display the instantaneous fuel consumption. I saw a tachometer on eBay from a Golf 1 (or 2?) that had the fuel gauge in that lower section. It might be the right size (I have a Golf 3 myself), and then you'd just need to figure out how to connect the 'fuel gauge' and maybe put in a different dial.
BTW: Someone on eBay claims that the instrument cluster from a G4 can be installed in a G3. Is that true? Does VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) offer such a thing? I have an airbag steering wheel, so I'm not going to mess with that.
Best regards,
MisterX.
