Hello,
I have a question about a non-diesel engine.
It's my 15-year-old Volkswagen Golf I Cabriolet with 172,000 kilometers (approximately 107,000 miles) on the odometer.
Recently, I heard some noises, and after a quick inspection, it was clear that they were coming from the power steering pump, which was completely empty of oil.
After refilling the oil, the noise was gone.
Unfortunately, I found the oil on the power steering unit again.
The rubber seal had two small cracks from which oil was leaking.
While removing the cuff, I encountered a significant amount of oil, approximately 0.2 liters.
Upon inquiry with VW, it was stated that the servo unit was defective

.
'This is not repairable and needs to be completely replaced; the material cost alone is 530 euros.'
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Is it okay to have oil inside the cuff?
Can a new one be installed, or will it break again after a short time?
Can the servo gear be repaired?
Are there no individual parts available for the gearbox from VW, or somewhere else?
Maybe someone here has an idea.
Best regards,
Faxes.
